BMX newb, but is he considered particularly good, presume so given the above comment.

hmm, yeah, he is good, my kind of street rider. I remember him as being part of the Voices crew from 'up north' who gained notoriety after the release of the totally brilliant dvd of the same name.

though he did not have a section in that video i had always associated him with that crowd, who really put UK street on the map in c.2005. His united split part with theo simpson is ace

He was one of the first UK street riders to get really good with a freecoaster along with the master Dan Cox

FAO: Feather owners - I am thinking about getting a few of us together (with our bikes) for an ale/coffee on the day that Ricky is down in London for the Design Museum event on British framebuilders.
Please PM me if you're a London-based Feather owner, or if you know one, and I'll let you know what the plan is.
Cheers

I don't suppose anyone here has ridden a bike from Feather and Dave Yates?
Thinking of getting something built next year and for different reasons I keep going back to these two.

Don't know of anyone on here who's had one recently. A friend of mine had the light green mixte frame built for his wife, and is having a rando type frame built in the near future. Anything you wanted to ask in particular? Ricky's a lot more organised than when I ordered mine. He has a proper price list and process now that includes a workshop visit and a bike fit.

thanks, was just wondering about quality of build and how the frames ride (i.e. amazing and worth the cost, or no better than a decent second hand frame) and also if anyone had an idea on waiting time as im sure he is getting fairly busy now. I might pop to Bespoked Bristol tomorrow and have a look, im sure he will be there.....
I have emailed him, just waiting for a response

The quality of his work is up there with the best, no question - check his Instagram account for evidence (old one that he retired: http://instagram.com/feathercycles & new one to avoid spam comments: http://instagram.com/thefeatherworkshop ).
I can't speak for anyone else but mine rides brilliantly (I think he had one customer who chopped in a Wilier Cento Uno for a Feather road bike and reckoned the Feather was nicer). If you're in the market for a custom I think he's a fantastic choice. Don't know what his waiting list is like now but last time I spoke to him (November I think) he reckoned he had a year's worth of orders. He did say he was planning a project that I'm not sure I should mention... but basically I think he has a plan to produce a bunch of frames in a certain style that wouldn't be full custom but would be available to buy straight away.
He won't be replying to emails until after Bespoked I should think, he's been working round the clock to get ready for it. Go see him and say hi.

In terms of dealing with him from initial inquiry and during the build process he's been fantastic.
Very friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and approachable (and busy...).
As for the ride I can let you know after Sunday when I finally collect it.

so you didn't win the actual one in the window then
he built you another one from scratch ? properly fitted i guessthat other one was tailored to suit a 6 footer with normal length arms ... just like myself !
@PeterMaxwell
Intend to take up your offer of a Tuesday ride sometime soon. Currently work evenings at the Boots library until mid-June, so it will have to be after that. At least I know where to go when the time comes....
