• I'd say we have a fairly strong culture of marches/demos/strikes/parades/pickets/rallies/protests over here.

Oh and I'm not including the shameful 2011 riots/bun fight. What about the suffrage parades - so important for women's rights!

How effective today's are is another matter.

As in our life times/recent history. Student demos have all but stopped, no one has stood up for fees, no one for the recent tax scandles and having a current government that is a joining of two parties and one party is there to be in power.

Look at the levinson trial. NOTW and then Sunday sun..people still bought the papers, so if there was a scandle that you cared about stop giving Murdock your money.

People are apathetic, I remeber a history teacher had this in a picture frame on his wall:
First they came for the ------------,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a ---------.
Then they came for the --------------,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a ----------.
Then they came for the --------------,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a ----------.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
I know its a mash up of the original but made me think.

The government is on our behalf we should tell them what to do. Even down to not be able to protest outside our government buildings.

They are effective and can bring down a government you just have to have a passion. Or am I that niave. Maybe we need a more socialist system.
