Spent most of today learning everything there is to know about Truvativ Howitzer bottom brackets to try to get rid of a really annoying noise when putting a lot of force through the pedals.
Removed and reinstalled the BB with grease etc, several times. Took the entire thing apart even down to removing the sealed bearings, removing the seal, cleaning them in petrol, drying, regreasing and reinstalling.
Still the crack/creak.
Tightened and retrued the rear wheel (mebbe spoke creak). Didn't stop it.
Tightened up the rear cog and spacer set. Didn't stop it.
Finally decided to strip and rebuild the pedals. I started to take one of them off and it wasn't in really tight like I normally install them. Tightened them both, and the noise went away.
30 seconds to fix something that had eluded me for about 4 hours.
I'd have been pissed off had I not learned some interesting stuff through my multiple fails.
