This seems to work! I'm only not 100% because because I don't have capabilities to convert to to MP4 on my old PowerBook.
But I plugged a SD in, created a sub folder in the DCIM called 100DICAM and named the file P0000001.
This open up in 'Photos' and I was able to download it, then delete.
Previously I plugged the SD in without the sub folder and it didn't work.
Clunky but cheap work around. I'm happy with that. :)
