I've never bothered shellacing cotton tape before. I don't mind it getting a bit grubby really. 2 Layers is just as squashy as fizik I reckon although a little rougher to the touch.
I might give harlequin a try next time, haven't seen purple tape tho to match my frame unfortunately. I do like the look of twine on the ends but I've never had it unwrap on me so it seems like pointless extra effort, it looks epic on this one though.
