  • Hey there Ladies of Fixed Gear,
I myself am a lady of fixed gear, and will be in London in August / September.
Will there be any rides I can find myself on, at that time?
I know it's ages away, but I'm getting in early. Planning, and all that.

  • Hi ladies, so looks like everybody was way too busy in last month or so so doodle has been forgotten about.
I have created the new one for June so please add yourself in. There is a bank holiday weekend so that could potentially be a good time.

Looking forward to the ride soon!

    Hi Caz,

keep your eyes on this thread for the upcoming ladies' rides. Or this one http://www.lfgss.com/forum5.html for general rides.

Hope to see you on one of the rides.

  • TNRC ride tomorrow is fairly similar to the Epping ride we did in October.

Weather dependent (looking good at the moment) I'm going to go, and it's not too full yet, so would be good to have some of you along if you're free.

if you're interested and get on the list!

  • I'm scared of the TNRC because I suspect they are hard 'n' fast. Aren't they? This is why I've never been to one.

  • I have only been twice, and only gone on the "flatter" routes (because I suck at hills), so my experience is a bit limited...

However, I think most of the women that have come on the ladies rides would be fine on TNRC. They do sometimes push my speed boundaries, but only for short stretches, and they are really good at making sure no one is dropped. I was a bit nervous before going last night that I would be left in the dust, but that wasn't the case at all, and I'm really glad I went!

Balmain (or others) has always stayed back with me when I am at the back (which is usually at the beginning when everyone guns it a bit, and then at the end when I am tired)

They are keen to get more women out (there was always at least one other for the rides I've been on) and I think it would be great to have more women along. As long as you can feasibily do the distance in time to catch the return train, who cares if we are a bit slower? As balmain pointed out, it's usually only a minute or two slower.

It's a great way to get more rides in, and I would recommend it.
Perhaps we could get a group of women to go on one together so that no one feels super slow or scared?

  • I would be willing to give this a try one Tuesday. I also suck at hills and have aged knees* so flat works for me every time.

  • Next ride when? July?

(Not that I should raise this cos already got rides planned for June).

  • My g/f after discovering the joy of road bike due to be restricted on a dutch bike for 2 years would like to go on those ladies ride.

She also express much dislike for hill after doing the London to Brighton ride on her aforementioned dutch bike so this sound perfect.

  • Just wanted to share somewhere (and i know it's no big deal to a lot of the guys on here, so hopefully won't have the piss taken out of me too much here)!
Today I rode to and up Box Hill. Anyone that knows me knows my hatred of hills and I'd never have attempted this a year ago.
This coupled with the fact that I've not actually ridden (for various reasons, mainly medical) since the Xmas Day ride; I'm pretty chuffed.
PS - it was one of your routes that we nicked - it was the route you ladies took when you went up there in November - thanks for the awesome route!

  • Well done, Heather!

  • Thanks Oliver! I won't lie, there was one point when we thought I wouldn't make it, but then we stopped at a shop, ate some pie, drank some coke and then I was fine again. Such a good feeling!

  • Congratulations LH!! Very well done.

  • ^^^^sweet!
Box hill still sort of scares me.... I missed that ladies ride, so have never been. Been meaning to try to get out and do some more hills (little ones then getting bigger) to get better, but still haven't started....

  • ^^ Snap. Well, I did some once and not gone again since. I'm riding to Scotland in a few weeks' time and praying that the night rides to date will help me a bit nervous grin.

  • I'd be up for another ladies ride out to Box Hill later in the summer and checking out the new road surface (not in a crashing on it way, just a no more pothole sort of way). Ms Chris - I think you'd be completely fine with it - it's long rather than steep.

  • I think I managed to average about 5mph going up that hill, so i'm by no means fast, but I didn't stop at all and for that I am very proud. I think Cafe Wanda appreciates my hatrid of hills, but it was something that needed to be done.
Ms Chris - the route that the ladies ride takes ensures you don't go UP zigzag road, (which is a bitch by all counts) but go DOWN it, which is so much fun and the views are awesome.
I'm up for doing a ladies ride out there...if you can bear to go that slowly up the hill...if not, just wait for me at the top, eh?!

  • ms.chris - let me know when you next do tnrc, I would be interested!

  • Heard that the new surface on the zig zag road is really nice ~
^ and I'd be up for tnrc too!

  • Excellent job Heather, must do Box Hill as the new surface sound ace.

  • Shall I start a seperate thread for Ladies Do Brighton 2012?

    And nice one Heather!

  • Shall I start a seperate thread for Ladies Do Brighton 2012?

    Bigtime in!

  • Shall I start a seperate thread for Ladies Do Brighton 2012?

    yes! totes in! :) :) :)

  • New road surface is great, although both lardboy and I thought it felt a bit weird, as though we were being kinda dragged to one side slightly. I guess it's the camber, but it did feel a bit strange. Maybe I was just a bit tired by that point.

So, Brighton then....hmmmm, maybe in. Depends on when it is so I can get some more miles in AND you have to promise not to laugh at me at Ditchling!
