  • Tomorrow is beginners night, you should come along.

  • A guy name Max or Matt I'm not sure he used bmx ytd you maybe know him beckiee

  • There's not much to miss out on with armchair polo.

    How's the wrist?

Well I'm just back from a fun filled morning at the Fracture Clinic. As usual a mixture of good and bad news. The good news is that the Elbow is healing up ok and should be pretty much back to normal in only another six weeks (It's 4 weeks so far). The bad news... my wrist is not doing so well. Having reviewed my x-rays they think my Scaphoid never really healed properly after my crash a couple of years back (it would explain why it was always aching when I was on the bike) and that the new injury has buggered it up some more. The broken bone next to it is causing more issues so they are referring me to a hand surgeon for MRI scans with a view to possible surgery, this would either be a Ti bolt kit upgrade or fusing the scaphoid to stabilise the wrist. Neither option is especially appealing.

I might yet have to take Salman up on the Unicycle loan :-(

  • Ti cyborg wrists sound kinda cool, and if it fixes it up for good then could be a positive in the long term.

  • Cyborg hand would be cool, but a massive pain at the airport.

Surgery/bolts would be a massive pain but wouldn't it help in the long run?

  • It's all time. That's the bit that's pissing me off. I've already had a month off the bike and it's looking like I'm only a 3rd of the way there if that. Walking everywhere really is starting to get on my tits. It's also not the best position to be in when looking for work, I'm not able to do anything manual for a while and while it's getting easier a full working day at a keyboard is more than I can handle at the moment. It just puts everything on hold for a while when I really want to be moving on in life.

A Ti lightweight skeletal upgrade kit could be kind of cool, perhaps I'll have to get a KCNC logo tattoo to increase the bling factor. The fuse option is less cool, while it would certainly help stabilise things but it would likely limit deflection and extension. As long as it doesn't leave me with a wrist limper than Julian Clarey and gets me back on a bike I'll consider it.

  • Could you ride one handed and use a dual lever on your non broken side?

  • I'm starting to think about this, I'm just cautious about making things worse which is why I've avoided it so far. Even if it was just so I could do a few gentle miles on the loop where I'd not have to worry about traffic and have big grass banks to aim for if it all goes wrong. If I just swap my levers over so I've got a rear brake it should be enough to stop me OK as I'm hardly going to be sprinting and it's fairly flat. I've been looking at lowering the gearing anyway so that I can do climbs without having to get out of the saddle and fatter tyres to take the edge of road surfaces. I'm also looking at swimming as an option. While I can't really pull with my arms I could at least do some fitness work with a float. I'll have a chat with the consultant hopefully next week and see what they say.

  • thought i should reintroduce myself in here. been super busy with the marathon training and such, but i have managed to acquire a bike!

ended up getting a mongoose maurice off the bay after waiting a few weeks for a cheap frame to turn up, hopefully in the future ill build my own but me being me couldn't wait much longer. had it for a month or so now and with my fresh wage im looking into some changes, but i have a slight problme first.

my lock ring has become loose, and aswell as that, my chain seems loose. so i now need to sort that out, i went into harry halls but he figured id be looking at 15 or so to just tighten the ring/shorten the chain, and whilst i want it sorted quickly, i can live with riding SS for the time being whilst i acquire the tools. looking online it seems for the money he quoted i could pretty much buy the tools and do the the job myself, and at the same time leanr something i can use when i get round to building a bike from scratch!

  • ^ good plan, tightening lockring is 2min job with proper tool. Don't forget there's tool club at pedalmcr in platt fields each tuesday too.

  • PedalMcr would be a good idea in cases like this. Turn up and borrow the tools required under supervision for a small donation. If you're planning a build at some point they would be a good source of tools and advice.

If you're after parts then the marketplace thread is good, it's worth placing wanted ads as lots of folks seems to have quite large parts bins.

  • Or if I remember correctly you live in the next building to me and I could do it/show you how.

  • cheers guys, just sent you a pm drewzy. pedal MCR looks cool too!

  • Drew, remember to only share your tools if they agree to try polo.

  • Yeah!

  • Lockring tool = drift + mallet, surely?

  • Hi all - fairly new to Manchester - live in Withington. Do any of you know about regular rides through the city? Am going to PedalMCR on Wednesday.
    Cheers

  • There is regular polo, it's awesome, come check it out, there's a little tournament on Saturday, come have a beer and say hello.
