What's the deal with readers wives in this thread?
Cause we're not saying our bike is porn-worthy, very much akin to admitting your partner is ugly but enjoy them nonetheless.
wait, that doesn't sound right...

It's not everyday you see a classic tourer with 26" wheels, they're not exactly common, so I think you got yourself a pretty decent round-the-world touring frame.

Hehe, no pressure.

I'm thinking of building up a one on pomp with disc brakes and hub gears - no idea of budget as of yet. I'm trying to save some cash so it'll be a slow process. What should I budget for something like this? (Absolutely no idea when it comes to disc brakes or hub gears)

Installed the cheap and cheerful Microshift derailleur.
Only annoyance is lack of barrier adjuster, so end up installing one on the cable.
Insofar, pretty decent, managed to put a straight block from 12t to 16t using a mixture of my 12-25t and 11-32t cassette.

- You live in Norfolk.
- Got a perfectly good all-round bike.

Hydraulic disc or mech? IMO hydraulic all the way. A set of new Shimano Deore brakes would set you back about £120. Avid BB5 road calipers are £35 each then you have to get some levers to go with them.
Ed. Why have you put your mech cable adjuster there?
-
• #1736
seemed like a good idea, the cable guide on the downtube don't have a barrier shifter build in (another annoying feature), so it's either there or on the handlebar.
-
• #1737
Less likeley to get full of shit on the handlebar and would therefore last longer.
Also able to adjust on the fly if needs be. -
• #1738
The way I see it it interferes with the curve where you've put it. I'd have put it on the curve from the lever to the frame.
-
• #1739
don't need to adjust on the go, especially when I have friction mode too, and the front often tend to be occupied by a handlebar bag.
-
• #1740
What handlebar bag do you have Ed?
-
• #1741
To be fair, I do need to buy some decaleur to fit better.
-
• #1742
Ah I thought you had a more modern looking one, that matched the top tube bag too, what's the top tube bag you've got?

The retro-grouch in me still exist, while the rest are modern (top tube bag are revelates design, and seat tube is bikepack.pl), this is my preferred bag to ride with;

Ha ha!
The fuel tank from here;

Looks like a winner. They do custom sizes for extra £3.00 too.
That fits between the stem and top tube. Not sure about the handlebar bags which they do as I don't think they'd get on with STI levers.

Can be made narrower if necessary, I got the Revelates Design handlebar bag for the sleeping bag/bivvy that also have a pocket on the top to store random stuff like camera, money, phone etc.
-
• #1746
Can that one be made narrower though?

Dunno, worth asking him.

I guess this is a possible function of bikes

I've been waiting for a nice day to clean up my bike and take a nice photo but in the spirit of functionality I used my phone instead.
Here it is, functioning on Wormwood Scrubs. She ain't pretty but...well but nothing. She ain't pretty. The ride is nicer the more weight I have in the panniers.

New Kaffenback or CrossCheck?
CrossCheck cos it's a Surly, but it's less versatile right.
*Almost functional.
Yeah, it's a touring frame, built for 26" wheels and cantis. No idea on the builder or tubeset, but the dropouts are stamped reynolds, and the forks definitely have the 'reynolds look'. Possibly 531, at a guess.
The brakes are just some Shimano ones. The clearance and spacing is fine with the velocity rims. The inside of the fork legs are crimped for tyre clearance, which is a nice touch.
