Boycott Addison Lee

  • I often see drivers wearing earphones, especially cabbies.

    This is happening more frequently.

  • Via Carlton Reid: "Addison Lee has updated its iPhone app, boosting its star rating & demoting the bad reviews." http://ipayroadtax.com/no-such-thing-as-road-tax/addyleeapp/

  • reviewed the new app

  • Also reviewed the new app... seems an iPod is good enough to do so.

AddLee must have sent another internal email out asking everyone to review the app, positive reviews are appearing this morning, and the timeliness of it (first thing on a business day) suggests it's not real public leaving them.

  • I've had Alexei Sayle's 'Ullo John gotta new motor"
(Hello, what's the damage John Minicabs ere)
going round in my head these last few days. Really appropriate (but NSFW)

  • The iTunes ratings are going well. First 150 at least are 1 star. Some 5 stars cropping up though. Very annoying, some people commenting on us saying that there are stupid idiots under rating the app for stupid person reasons....wankr

  • Love the message under the logo, hadn't spotted it

  • I'm not sure what they are wearing. In my ends it's all about 70% blacked up windows.

  • Also reviewed the new app... seems an iPod is good enough to do so.

A campaign of marking comments as either spam, or "thumbs down" on anything positive?

  • There's heaps of alternatives to Addy Lee.

Creative Cars, natch. Even if some of their vans are driven by utter ballbags.

  • Signed.

And I'll raise it with one of the large clients of Addison Lee also, as I know her (the Facilities Manager) very well, and she is the one that signs the monthly cheques that goes out to them. Uniquely, the same company has a large cycling population, and pay extra for a handsome and impressive underground cycle parking area - I don't think they would like to know that one of their contractors (AddLee) was now putting their own staff at significantly increased risk. I'm sure the Facilities Manager will be asking for AddLee to explain themselves to her.

    Good initiative VB.

  • On the 'listening to music' point when the police issue penalty notices to cyclists there are three information categories for the police to tick

    1. Were they listening to music?
    2. Were they riding a tfl bike?
    3. i forget the third
I don't know of an equivalent for drivers.
  • Is that true Somebuster? I actually fail to understand how either of those questions are relevant.

  • On the 'listening to music' point when the police issue penalty notices to cyclists there are three information categories for the police to tick

    1. Were they listening to music?

I don't think that's generally a standard option to tick, after all it's perfectly fine and legal to listen to music while riding (or driving).

  • That's why I ask...

  • The problem with asking companies to boycott Aaddison Lee is that there is no one to take their place - if you work for a big firm, with massive accounts, and cancel Addison Lee your going be fucked for getting your staff around for a while.

Also they are a lot cheaper than Black Cabs, so you are also asking companies to do do something that will make a big difference to costs.

I am not defending Addisson Lee as this whole thing is a joke, but saying lets Boycott/ target companies that use them is in no way constructive. Sure have a word with em, but dropping Addison Lee isn't as simple as it may seem to us for many companies

  • Addison Lee have been lobbying for this for ages (from back during their appeals against the M4 taxi-lane). I even recall hearing them say they were going to advocate and defend their drivers in ignoring the bus lane rules.

Addison Lee is run by a stupid tory, who, not very surprisingly, thinks that cyclists should undertake training and have insurance (I've done both, Mr Griffin you ignorant twonk). Haven't lots of motoring, haulage and other embattled groups said the same, or worse?

Where's the news story here? Why the righteous indignation and the campaign by the internet's friendliest forum? Why isn't ignoring this the best policy?

  • Petition signed... nothing to add as I think plenty of colourful words have already been used and plenty of opinions with it.... and totally agree with all that's against Addison Lee! cc

  • Vanessa Feltz is discussing this on BBC London 94.9FM. They need some cyclists to ring in to balance the discussion a bit. So far it's rather one sided on the motorists side.

  • Vanessa Feltz is coming across as incredibly anti-cyling. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/england/london/

    Boycott Vanessa Feltz?

  • Did you, indeed? Do you still have the details to hand? I want to include something in the letter I am about to write to Mr Griffin.

Was it the standard CICA policy or something else?

No, bit of a long way round, as a common law spouse on my GF's policy offered to her by her company, declared my job, which was shown on joint certificate, checked exclusions when papers arrived and all was good. £16 per month if I remember correctly. Have long since thrown the paperwork away unfortunately.

  • Boycott Vanessa Feltz?

    Already do!

    Boycott Vanessa Feltz?

I feel nothing but pity for her. Imagine waking up each day and remembering you're Vanessa Feltz.
