I have that Brown Saddlebag and I have/do use the under webbing for flipflops/lightweight trainers, and can put a waterbottle in there (although not access it when cycling) as i ride a big enough frame. It is ok for a wet jacket, but as mentioned you can spend time poking bits back in.
The bit I get most use out of on that one (than the newer 2011 one) is the external zipped pocket which gives quick and easy access to some essentials on a (saddlebag only) light tour/day+ ride, without having to open up the main bag and/or carry stuff in my pockets....Though I guess, the Hip Pouches cover that problem, as you can't really tell they're there, as oppose to swinging short/jersey pockets and you can access stuff on the go.
The way I see it, as time goes on, the better these designs are getting, which is exciting as a customer (although makes you want the first and last of everything) and sign of a genuinely creative mind. Which I don't doubt is as much a burden, as it is a gift.
