could i use this with a road bike 50/39/30 crankset? 7 speed rear freewheel I'm doubting it...
I reckon you'll be fine. Aren't front mech's pretty simple things? Wouldn't it be the shifter's that determine it (if they're sti/similar)
One thing I would say is that that's an aweful lot to spend on a front mech.
