No worries dude. You need to get an MTB and come to Wales in june,

I've decided to swap some bits over and make my polo bike into a street machine. Here's a well dodgy mock-up of what it'll look like:
It won't really be left-hand-drive!

Just got back from Malta where these seem to be quite popular! I would like to buy an old schwinn frame and do something similar!
Anywho, Have been wanting to do a "naked" Bike for a while and though i would use this gas pipe Raliegh I was given.
So frame stripped and so on.
Any one see the problem?!?
After two hours of using this namby Pamby (and not cheap) Paint remover tho only thing stripped is the ink of the stickers!!
Anyone know of some good stuff to get this enameling off?? -
• #666
I take it you gave it a good scrubbing with a wire brush after you dowsed it in the stripper?
... and then reapplied and re-scrubbed ... -

What is that frame made out of? If it is not reynolds, you may want one of my spare frames. Raleigh record 501. Similar size. One of the dropouts is cracked, but as you can have it for free. Swinging £10 to your local friendly welder will sort it out.
Anyhow, regarding the paint stripper. Check that it contains Dichloromethane. It wont work without it. If you use nitromors the paint will bubble up, and you just scrape it off lightly with a credit card. Dead easy.
Make sure the stripping substance you apply remains wet.

I used Nitromors on my Dawes frame, it didn't bubble up at all cos that paint is really tough. Had to pretty much sand it all off...
-
• #669
Interesting. Did you get it to stay wet? Ive done a few frames and parts, always come right off.

I have a wire brush-disc sander which neil is currently borrowing, it's noisy, but powerful as hell and the wire brush* means it will get into all the nooks. Welcome to borrow it Dub.
*It's a steel wire brush, so has no give at all. don't hold on one spot for too long as it will go through the metal eventually.

Why not just get it sand/shot/whatever blasted? Cheap as chips and you don't have to waste hours of precious time and lose the skin off your fingers. It's the painting part that powdercoaters routinely fuck up, not the stripping...

This is true.

Cheers Emm!
@ Dan i know i should have known better tis but a tenner to have it media blasted but though i would kill an afternoon and have a go myself, i didnt want the tubes to have that slightly pitted effect you tend to get from blasting, However I have done some research today and this enamel shizzle is tough stuff!!! of to the blasters this week! Cheers squeak I have some one local who'll do it You booked Shell Island yet?
Stu F you in brum tonight?
