  • oh jackson thread has been re-emerged.

Reminds me, this year, a respray might just happen. Mine (flam red on chrome) is looking really sorry for itself now thanks to a wet winter and bike not being allowed to come in the house to dry out. Its the forks, chrome on them was already not ideal (lots of tiny spores of rust), pretty sure another year and they'll be blistering up.
I guess stripping/rechroming forks / rear stays is easily as expensive as the whole respray if not more? Can anyone suggest any places to have it done thats better/ cheaper than jacksons themselves? Since I got it I wanted them to renovate it (has a frame dent too), but heard so many neutral/ neg things about them in past few months (and I am finicky as hell when it comes to this kind of stuff, if I'm paying £2-400 for a service, 'I' want to be the one who puts chips and scratchs on it, not them).

  • just put down a deposit for the Bob Jackson/BLB one, cripe!

that'll be a frame for life defintely.

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

  • aye, before I realised it doesn't fit me at all.

Man I did love that frame.

  • Just got back from a nice ride on my vigorelli

  • lovely stuff

this arrived the other day, will be built up next week, very excited

  • Got bob a new saddle, had the Rolls on there for a year now, guess it was an extra hard version as it has just never softened up. Its a chromo brooks swift, a bit mishapen but it'll be reet.

Bar the hubs, now finally running full 600 arabesque, and my stockpile of gen1 dura ace is nearly complete (was originally supplied with that in '73). Next step is probably some brooks honey bar tape and need 1x hood as one of them has just about disintegrated after 30+ years use.

  • That's lovely - are you doing something special for the big four-O next year?

Anyway, here's mine. It's a Vigorelli with full Campag Record Pista and Open Pro rims, brooks, Nitto, MKS and an NOS San Marco seatpost. It's about five years old now:

  • cheers, possibly a respray and rechrome of forks / rear end. Front triangle paintwork isn't bad at all, and would be happy keeping it looking as it is, but rear triangle is mostly chromed and has been painted over at a later stage (maybe just a few years after new, its hard to tell as paint matchs nicely) and it obviously hasn't stuck to teh chrome so its coming away like a rash. Forks are pretty badly faded and again coming off the chrome, and crown has micro blisters appearing. So looks sweet in photos, but up close, its a bit of a sight!
If I respray I was thinking of keeping forks all chrome exposed (as it was delivered) and rear triangle, or at least drive side chain stay and dropouts.

Is that a cut down swift on there? I just got a used one yesterday that was a bit mis-shapen, and even with loads of tension on it, the wings are quite broad, much broader than I was expecting.

    Nice is that.

  • what are the differances when getting one from BLB, just that i'm looking into getting a bike made with a cycle scheme voucher and BLB are the only shop to stock bob jackson that takes them as far as I'm aware

Do they still offer the same range, or are they all off the peg frames?

It does look great in the photographs! My saddle is a Ti Swallow, not a chopped Swift.

    Nice is that.

Cheers! I'm surprised you haven't seen it around Leeds.

  • So am I!

  • oh ti, nice :)
i used to have a collection (read "bucket of uncomfortable pretty tatt") of 90s ti railed mtb saddles, always fanxied a ti swallow or swift but they dont come up very often. is the swallow similar to the swift aside the slimmer sides / wings?

  • Someone posted this in BP and i emailed BJ about what colour and they said they couldn't be sure from that picture

    Anyone know what colour?

  • It belongs to me. The colour is champagne metallic. Hope that helps.

  • Thank you polasp!

Got a rely from BLB and apparently they're not doing BJ anymore :(! might just have to build one up myself as i don't think anywhere else that takes scheme vouchers does them

  • argh

i was about to ask if anyone built bob j's for that reason - so i could c2w part of one. i'd happily build one but as you can't even spec the parts with them it will just obviously be a frame and fork on the invoice.

is / was it only BLB that built Bobs?

  • Did I see you locking up outside The Bear on Clerkenwell Rd last Monday?

    lovely stuff

this arrived the other day, will be built up next week, very excited

  • yes you did. I was having a lovely curry near there. i'm sure you'l agree it hasn't quite made it to the barspin territory that BJ built it for, but it makes a great run around

as far as i can find!

Well bob jackson are listed on the bike2work website, and i think they have a shop front, i'd give it a ring around, get back on here if you get anywhere!

Yeah it looked cool. I've never seen one like that before. I was drinking outside The Bear and I've got to admit I gave it a quick perusal once you'd gone (sorry).

  • just built up my bob, what do people think?

  • Look at your bars and look at the bars on rogan's bike and have a think about what you've done

And if you want a brake lever position that works the lever should be parallel to the HT not the bars

  • fair point about the bars but the brake works fine how it is. why should the lever be parallel to the HT?

  • wrist angle
