Im running 8 speed. But yeah combo shifters COULD be the solution. But from experimenting with fitting the ones I have. I get the feeling that with even combo shifters, the gear levers would interfere with the bar.
I also own about 4 sets of good quality 8 and 9 speed shifters. (Deore, Deore LX, STX RC) so am keen to use them before buying even more stuff!
