But still, the point of carrying a lock with your bike is missed if you don't at least pass it through one of the triangles... no matter how far away from it you are

so wait... this threads biggest achievement has been to show people how to steal poorly locked bikes
Not really, it shows people how not to lock up your bike.
If people see how easily a bike can be stolen locked up poorly they may make more effort to locking it up better next time.

As a postscript to this, the necessity for a decent lock should never be underestimated.
My girlfriends D-lock that was sold with her bike gave up the ghost at the weekend, no amount of WD would make it budge. Sadly it was locked in Tottenham Court road at the time. Two small hit with my Fag and it was off. Worrying.

Ahh i remember someone taking a picture of the bike but I didnt realize it was CB!
There was a decent size group of us so there werent going to be any stolen bikes that day.

I think i already said my post was ironic. I don't actually think this thread has any effect on raising awareness of how to steal bikes. Sarcasm recognition fail etc.

Xander and reeen, it's not a personal or an individual criticism to say that generally when a bike is locked up, it should be with the main lock passing through the main or rear triangle at the least. But I can see that if a group of riders are actually near the bike, then it's not actually necessary. But locking through the triangle is still the best way. Not true?

Whohoo we got there at the end, thanks for the wisdom.
C.B. where did you nicked that pic again?

Don't remember maybe the identify parts thread.
I wish I had never posted the damn thing, sorry so many people started giving you pearls of wisdom about correct locking technique.

I got tons of pm's about the bolt security that I used. So this reached quite a few readers and think it was worth it to make bike parts saver, when the bike is locked up.

Discussions about bike security should be encouraged, no matter what the form, the intent is the same. We all want to see bikes secured in the best ways possible.

God Almighty.

Same concept would be good for a laptop lock I think. Especially in an office where they have whole rows of computer equipment locked down.

what are the 'keys'? How do they work
-

^^^^I believe that's a repost.

Spotted in Rugby. God knows why I was there, but still. Just the three locks, none of which are of much use.
-
• #1947
why not mark it somehow so you know roughly the right spot?

sorry. that was in response to a reply on an earlier page. someone said it would be a headache to remove their seatpost every time they locked up -

Almost...
