I can say Im used to it now but still need to learn how to skid (i have front brakes on) :)

I live in LONDON, around lewisham/new cross (anyone near?)
fairly new into fixed gear, any ride outs?

Hi Brian. Welcome. Lots of us in SE London. Forum drinks are a really good way to get to know people. SE's here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread14030.html

  • Hi, new here. Been riding singlespeed for a few years, but decided to grow some balls and switch to fixed, live in kent, work in london. Would love to attend a ride/meet in the future. Cheers.

  • Hi there, just joined the forum and thought that I would say Hi and try to post a picture of My Carpenter Fixie, but dont know how to attach the picture.

I also have a project on the go at the mo, a hand build Alec Bird Fixie frame thats being spruced up by Colour Tech.
Again I'm new and have to do three posts till I can start my own thread.

Any pointers to add images. (I think that I may of just worked it out !)

    Cheers
    Jon
Hi Spoons - this might help answer your upload queries: http://www.lfgss.com/thread17.html

  • Hi. My name is Miguel, I´m from Portugal and allready have seen 41 Springs and Winters. Quite a newby in the world of bikes, my preferences go to road bikes, fixed gear and SS. Currently I own 3 bikes: a vintage Bottechia from the late 70´s, a Iro fixed and a MTB that I use for my surboard. I do not own a car, bikes are the way I move. The Bottecchia is in Columbus SL, fully Zeus equipped (period correct) and awsome to ride. The Iro has Velocity rims, a San Marco Roll Due saddle and Cane Creek geadset as major highlights. The MTB is just a deviation :)

  • Another hello!

I am from Kent and recently started cycling with a friend.

Purchased a Giant Defy 1 2012 Compact 2 months ago and have been doing around 35 miles per ride on the weekends.

I am looking at getting a single speed for London as i am moving to central in a few weeks. Still not decided it i should go fixed? Any suggestions would be appreciated! I love the look of this bike below,

Could you ride this around daily?! I would most likely have brakes and not fixed. After doing some research online i was looking at Langsters and nearly bought one on eBay but outbid at the last second! I would love to build my own with a bit of help. Any suggestions on parts etc to buy would be appreciated!

    Thank You

  • Hello, I'm josh and I live in the north. I've been perusing this forum for a while now, so thought it was about time to join the fun. I've been riding fixed for about a year now, but ridden bikes since forever...

Well, you can have a fixed gear with brakes. And yes, you can ride a fixed daily, I do :)

I'd throw some brakes on there (a front and maybe a rear until you get used to it) but yeah, totally. I ride my fixed gear as a city commuter every day and it's a heap of fun. Makes me want to go places, just so I can actually GO there by bike, even if those places are work-related...

You can do longer rides too. I met a guy yesterday who is planning to ride from Kyoto to Tokyo over 7 days with some friends (starting today). That's been done before, too. Touring isn't just for roadies!

  • Hey. My name is Jonno and I am just getting in to the whole road biking and will be (hopefully) building a fixie in the next few months.

The bike at the moment (ignore the white bar tape...still waiting on new black tape and cables):

  • Hello londoners, i have a new job and will be moving down south for it from manchester in june, i had a charge plug stolen and didnt get it replaced until i knew if this job was going through, I'll be getting the up to £1000 cycle to work voucher from my new job, and would be willing to spend the full amount

Where would you recommend i use to get a bike to put together? looking for a classic/track style frame and durable parts for commuting 6-7 miles a day, have seen 14bikeco and brick lane bikes, are these the 2 to look at?

  • Hi guys and gals! New to the forum so go easy on me :P.

Name's Alex and live in Chippenham just near Bath. Been riding and racing road bikes and mountain bikes for years now (I'm 18) and have taken a love for fixies even though I don't own one (yet).

All soon to change though as I have a frame that I'm prepping for self spraying and gonna be well on my way to build my own fixie!

  • Hello everyone. Ted here. I'm going to be visiting London in about a month, I have some questions about traveling with my own bike or renting one there. I found two stores.. I'll post specifics and bother you all with tedious questions in the appropriate thread(s). thought i'd introduce myself before picking brains! take care everyone.

  • Hey,
I'm based in London and keen to get in to cycling for commuting and fun. Will be looking to buy a single speed or road bike shortly, when I can figure out how to post a wanted ad!

  • I am 45 and based in London. I have got a red Belisimmo single speed bike I bought from Evans on special offer for 300 pounds reduced from 400. Frankly I have had nothing but trouble with it. It had mudguards but they were so close to the tyres I had to remove them. Metal swarf from the wheel rims kept coming off so I had to fit softer break pads. The back wheel keeps coming loose because the bearings in it are worn already after just a few months.

I'd have taken it back. Never even heard of Viva.

Edit: I'd have taken it back because of the worn bearings, not because it's a Viva. Evans/Cycle Surgery generally have a warranty period as do the Manufacturer of the bike.

Hey, welcome! To answer your questions

1 - Never heard of it so I cannot say, you could try asking in the any questions answered thread.
2 - Foffa bikes tend to be frowned upon by the forum as they are more "lifestyle accessories" than bikes don't buy from anyone who puts more effort into the colour scheme of a bike than into the actual specifications of it. For £350 you will be able to buy a much better bike in the classifieds section of this here forum!
3 - I have never heard of there being age restrictions with regards to entering alleycats as long as you are comfortable riding in traffic you should be fine.

Hey welcome to the civilised part of the UK ;)! And of course the forum! Both of those are reputable establishments however you may be limited to what shops you can actually buy the bike from under the cycle to work scheme I don't really know the ins and outs of it I'm afraid. Hopefully I'll see you at drinks or on some of the rides.

Hey! There is a thread for everything (just about) you may even escape being ranted at and told to UTFS given your exemplary attitude.

Hello and welcome! You will need to be out of the nursery in order to start a thread for details check this out.

Hi! Sorry to hear about your problems it sounds like you should be raising a complaint with Evans there are a number of members who work for the company who could give you advice about how best to do this and there are many knowledgeable members who will be happy to give you advice about sorting it out yourself should you wish to do that. Probably the best place to ask is Any Questions Answered hopefully you can figure something out so you can enjoy riding your bike in the coming (probably very short) summer.
