  • Been using HALT - Gooey - Red (soft) compound on fresh mavic CD rims

Actually better in the wet than the dry. And in the dry, not amazing, but then they are 80s single pivot brakes, tried the same pad on a bike with modern brakes and they were miles better obviously.
Wearing at a reasonable rate, faster than your average shimano insert, but then they are not chewing my rims up like shimano's would.
Feel very soft under the lever though, almost endless amounts of 'squidge'

Pretty much a year on. And yup, they are now useles.
Bike has been stored indoors over winter, but still used regular enough (few times a week). The compound started off super soft, almost silicon rubber like in texture, but a year of use (maybe only 1200-1500 mostly dry miles) and they aren't that worn, because they have turned into solid blocks of hard useless plastic.
They now have the stopping power of nokia 3210's, and about the same softness. Avoid. Get coolstop salmons, or swiss stop greens, nothing else is worth a damn.
