SCCU Good Friday Meeting

This is going to to be a big one, what with the new track.

The weather is not looking good, though this is normal. Metcheck suggests rain by 19.00.

I shall be there none the less.

Correction; its showers from 16.00 hours, but as this is a frontal system its any one's guess when the rain might arrive.

I'm getting ''rather cloudy'' from the BBC. I can live with rather cloudy. Plenty of time for that to change though.

Don't give it any thought at all until you get to the track. In fact the only thought you should give it is regarding how many layers to wear.

However, if you get the opportunity to try a qualifying 200 in 30mph winds on a wet track, I would advise that you politely decline.

I shall come what ever the weather; its unfortunate that will get proper spring classic weather when we don't want it.

A day for one's heavier tweed I suspect...

Am I really reading this right? Tickets to go and watch, have a hotdog and mooch over the Bike Jumble are £12 per person?! Is it me or is that a bit steep? Was going to take my other half and my parents who've never watched Track before which would come to nearly £50 - that's like top class London tourist attraction prices.

Why don't you promote a meeting of this quality and get back to us on how much money you need to raise to cover your costs before you complain.

No, it's a bargain, outside of Manchester the biggest track event in the UK calendar, usually has international riders and often world and olympic champions present....Major events like this raise the profile and help sustain the future of a venue many of us use regularly, please support......

Can you still buy tix on the gate as usual this year?

I totally appreciate that it is hard to fund and to organise grass roots level events, and I know the entire velodrome runs on good will and time in kind alone - good will and time in kind I have given myself freely in the past.

I just thought it was a lot of money for a standing event in the open air for what is supposed to be as much a community facility as it is an elite venue.

A small grump, I'll admit, and maybe my perception of cost is bit warped. Either way I'm grateful to all the people involved in helping to organise the day and indeed am happy that the Good Friday meet is even back in London at Herne Hill at all.

it's a just over a tenner ffs, a full days top quality racing for the price of a chinese takeaway
get your parents to pay for themselves or maybe even get them to pay for you if things are that not going that well at marksbikes

How is £12 a lot of money to see top class racing for 6hrs? Try going to a Championship or league one football match and you'll be lucky to see change from £30 for 90 minutes of turgid football and a restricted view seat behind a pillar.

I've never been to watch track racing before & quite fancy coming to this, but my reading skills seem to be letting me down - could someone tell me what time it all kicks off/finishes please (assuming you need to get there early to catch any particularly nice bits in the bike sale too)?

11am for the sprint and handicap heats then 1pm for the main event, finishing around 5pm.
