  • hello, im just starting to pull together a singlespeed bike. I got hold of an old raleigh (possibly eclat?? decals are faded) to use as the base, i have measured the dropout width to be 124mm. Can anyone recommend some cheap wheels which would fit. Can I put 120mm OLD wheels in?

    Thanks

It would work, but you can also get spacers to fill the gap

could get these or these, i own both, first ones seem to be lighter but the second ones seem to have better hubs

  • Cant you just get the chainrings and EBay off the ones you have?
I'm assuming 110 5 arm pcd here. But I'm no shimano expert.
    See the BBB ones....

Yeah, it's one option. Would shifting/stiffness suffer compared to the pukka Shimano ones though?

Totalcycling.com have the full matching 6601 chainset for £120 (albeit with a 53 ring, adding a little HTFU garnish).

I think the BBB chainrings are pretty decent. Not the lightest, but not flexi.

But for £70 the pair, a new chainset does seem a better buy.

Next step is to get the forks drilled/get new forks,
add a 105 front caliper and change the cockpit
to a 3ttt pro chrome corsa and Bontrager SSR
VR-C road drops with old Shimano SLR levers.

  • Just rotated the bars down, moved the shifters up, and moved the saddle forward so the rails where clamped in the middle- and the Klein now has a slightly shorter reach (half an inch) than the Cannondale.

Saddle height was spot on already.

Ladies and gentlemen, it looks like it is going to fit.

    Probably.

  • Regarding Regal's chainset...

TA rings are very good. Spa Cycles or Parker International have them, they have the pins so shift well.

Also I'm the owner of a 52/39 6600 (silver) chainset and should probably be riding with a compact.

    ...swaps?

Ah but how much does it weigh?

    Can't do silver, sorry. :)

cheers, i had seen both but didnt know if they were any good. when you say spaces do you just mean some washers? i was worried the axle wouldnt be long enough if i spaced it out. will that not be a problem?

  • Can't do silver, sorry. :)

    Fair enough.

Hope you sort it. I'd put black TA rings on if I were you.

Nice, does it look as if that headset's a bit loose or is that just me?

  • Ah but how much does it weigh?

I'm sure they'll be a dedicated thread soon enough ;)

Looking forward to seeing the Klein!

  • I think it must be you... it's definately not going anywhere...

  • Ah but how much does it weigh?

No idea, actually- that was a focus of the 'Dale, the focus for this one is long range comfort.

That said of course it would be great if it is light as well, but that's not an outright goal.

    Behold!

  • Nice Orla Kiely tote.

  • One of the guys at work, who is a sram affiliate, has offered me Force (2011) groupset for £600. Which is good. but I'm not sure I can justify buying it all at once/brand new. As I had planned on ebaying it over the month. It is tempting though...

  • Did i see you at the warren st junction earlier this eve on this bike? If not your bike haz a twin!

Trying out these bars as I have another use for the drops I usually ride, and don't see these going back on the lopro any time soon.

They're fantastic! I don't know why I was so down on pursuit bars (on regular frames) before.

Sorry not much of a current project but I am excite about these bars feeling so good.

  • a late 70's Courtois stickered Bernard CARRE (which came with a matching Motobecane TR 3 M)

will swap the Hurets (missing the front Jubilee),for a set of Simplex, the Soffati saddle for a Regal, and then will give it a try.

  • sweet couple!

  • I think it must be you... it's definately not going anywhere...

    Cool, just checkin

  • cheers, i had seen both but didnt know if they were any good. when you say spaces do you just mean some washers? i was worried the axle wouldnt be long enough if i spaced it out. will that not be a problem?

I have used washers on bodged up conversion, but your better off with proper spacers, like These or scroll down here

Also, the Weinmann wheels seem to have longer axels to give you a bit more room for the spacers.

  • First matching Kleins, now those matching Courtois.. what's happening to this forum?
I foresee the 2013 Current Projects trend...

  • Party time

If you decided to, do not run eggbeater on a brakeless fixie skidder.
