Yes but the triathletes you mention, normally go solo and lap the bunch twice and then win the sprint. Witnessed this.

Just wanted to ask, lo-pro/Pursuit bikes with bullhorns are no longer permitted on velodromes inc. Herne Hill, correct?
Thanks -
• #159
they have never been allowed in mass start racing or group training...
nowadays bikes must have same size wheels, non traditional bars (tri bars, bullhorns etc) are allowed in individual time trial events only......I'm sure there's more detail, but that's the basics.

Has anyone raced down on the Cyclopark circuit in Kent?
Saw this event in the calendar and was thinking about riding on Saturday: http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/78045/Surrey-League-Road-Race-(LWCR)

Given the lack of replies, I'll update the thread.
Raced there yesterday, and it was probably the best crit circuit I've done (previous experience mainly at Darley Moor and Mallory in the Midlands). Nicely lumpy, it's not just a massive corner-fest and has a great fast winding descent down the back before climbing back up to the finish line.
Raced it in the wet, and there is a lot of water held on the very smooth surface which sprays up but somehow doesn't get slippery - not sure how that works. It is a bit of muddy hell, though as the carpark isn't much of a hard-packed surface and the entrance to the track is again over mud - which makes the track quite muddy in places. This is probably emphasised by the off-roaders occasionally riding on the tarmac. No clubhouse or permanent toilets (2 portaloos, so bring bog-roll and be prepared to queue - or nip in the bushes if you're not a girl) yet although I was told this is expected to be done over the summer

I also raced the circuit yesterday. Of all the circuits, it's not my favourite though I will be back to give it a go in better weather and once I've done some more racing this year (that was my first race yesterday after over 18 months off). A bit too artificially selective imo with all those 180 degree turns.
The pavilion was already supposed to be completed which is why the portacabin clubhouse has disappeared leaving the place pretty rudimentary. I think the current finish date is end of May.
The normal start-finish line is near the bridge, so about halfway up the long draggy climb. Yesterday given the conditions, it made more sense to put the line nearer the parking lot.
Track is definitely better than Hog HIll in terms of punctures, there were probably only half a dozen yesterday whereas HH would have had half the field! That's due to the surrounding ground though -- clay/mud rather than flinty bits.

Where can I find information of winter criteriums?
I understand that ELV run them at Hogg and there are some at hillingdon. But where can i get further info of the sessions?
Defo some good advice here,
raced a couple of seasons with london dynamo a few years back, they used to do through and off sessions on saturday mornings round richmond park, that provides you with the basic speed and skills/etiquette for bunch racing. I understand that the popularity of circuits like hillingdon have grown and triathletes have started taking up racing there who perhaps dont have the bike handling experience but do have excellent fitness, this can be a bit hairy. In 4cat races there is a lot of switching about and the pace yoyo's between 22 and 30mph so there are ocasional stacks. Racing is a real buzz!
