  • Not really - the arguments are the same: because people are getting away with something it is right that we should stop pursuing it.

The arguments are in no way the same, the inland revenue cannot pursue people who commit tax avoidance as it is legal, the only barrier to it is you have to be able to pay enough money to a good accountant who can find the legal loopholes for you. Most people who pay tax would not actually save money by doing this so it is only worthwhile for the very wealthy. If however you use illegal means to avoid paying tax on your income you will be pursued by the authorities as you will be committing fraud and to be honest they are pretty good about catching these people. The moral debate about tax avoidance is a different matter altogether.

Sexual assault, is a crime, in this country will always be considered morally repugnant, and when it is reported will always be pursued by the authorities to the best of their ability. The clear up rate is poor for many reasons not least because conviction will often rely on a woman (most of the time) who has been violated in the worst possible way and deeply traumatised by her experience confronting the attacker in open court which is an act of bravery most people simply cannot comprehend.

You are comparing apples to cars. There is no comparison.
