  • now that you've ordered them, it doesn't matter too much, but i'll share my 2p anyway.
they are very heavy. the difference is very noticeable (of course depending on what you're comparing them to). but as far as i can remember from my (sort of) street riding days, they should be run at high psi, making them a real-deal slick (i dont know how else to put it), as opposed to Big Apples, for instance, for which the whole idea is to run them at low psi. So i am not sure this is what you were looking for

I want a bomb proof tyre. That can carry 200Kg, and still give a decent ride for cyclist, and passengers. I figured the hookworms fitted this, albeit with a weight penalty.

  • so high psi (rock-hard tire) is good for that, in your view?

  • Have a couple skinny bikes, building a fatbike, and all my bikes are short So I figured I needed a long one.

For load carrying, child transportation, and DH racing.

Oooh. Cool. I was looking at these a few months back as well. They look great.

  • I'll repeat this; the Maxxis Hookworm are proper downhill tyres.

  • so high psi (rock-hard tire) is good for that, in your view?

They will need to be at a pretty high PSI to take the load. Part of the reason Hookworms are so heavy is the sidewall. So this should make them good load carriers.

The size and look definitely played a big role in the decision.

  • On what grounds?

Oh there's a history behind this, it's all in the forum in full detail, but I can't find it, other old timers might know more.

  • I'll repeat this; they're proper downhill tyres.

They are park/urban/BMX tyres. The 26" version is probably based on a DH carcass. But the continuous tread around the sidewalls is for longevity, while slidding off edges etc.

  • Just got these to replace the slightly warped chainring on my bike. It's much too good for the bike but there's nothing wrong with stocking up on decent parts that I can transplant when the right frame comes along. Is what I'm telling myself.

  • Not sure that makes him a cunt, just a Scouser.

    Channelling my inner bodieanddoyle.

I'm not sure its an isolated incident.

  • I've managed to get my Dolan covered in greasy finger prints that won't come off.

I think that's just part of the curse of the matte black paint job. Even after a thorough clean they're back in 5 mins.

  • I've managed to get my Dolan covered in greasy finger prints that won't come off.

    New bike time.

  • saw you coming down high street ken. yesterday doing a little skid coming up to the lights. nice bike

Thanks man! Give a shout next time :)

Was gonna say, there ain't many knobs on them hookworms for a DH tyre!

I know that I stopped riding DH over 10yrs ago, but pretty sure they still use 6inch+ full suspension rigs with way slack geometry and although the hookworms might be about the right size, I can't imagine Danny Hart using slicks!

Would be quite amusing to see him try though...

  • There are urban downhill races that go through the city like in Chile not long ago.

Such tyres are idea for such sources, I just notice the Hookworm we have at work have "downhill" written on the sidewall, of course it could simply be a hint of Slowfurry's cargo build...

  • Thats true... didn't they do one somewhere in wales last year too?!

Something to do with the Athertons.

  • All the cool kids in Maandagmiddagrondje are riding it..

    Waar is dit maandagmiddagrondje at?

Urban DH yes. You have a point there.

I'm guessing the DH is related to them sharing the same carcass as the rest of the DH range. But everything about them points to jumping around on tarmac.

  • Waar is dit maandagmiddagrondje at?

Around Tilburg! Although not every maandagmiddag - depending on the weather. Welcome anytime to tag along Frank

    There's a difference?

This, they have downhill written on them as they share the dual ply sidewalls of other downhill tyres such as the minion, high roller etc. I still wouldn't use them for DH though, not even 'urban DH'. Prefer having at least a bit of tread!

  • Finish for now;

Next step: get a large "TONY BELL" decal on the downtube and "NEVER FORGET" on the top tube.

  • You missed a bit.

  • the drops on those bars is too steep

  • looking fast Ed

is there going to be a back brake too?

and what's that thing on the seatpost?
