Am brinking an AE-1 to shoot at Flanders in a fortnight. It's a little battered (viewfinder's even been poked in) and I've yet to find a replacement battery for it, but... I was thinking the old zoom and regular lenses I have might be the best to bring with me. I can get my hands on cheap Kodak 200 in local pound shop too. I haven't used it in awhile, but am hoping the results will be interesting at least.
over expose by half a stop if in date, 2/3 if slightly out of date and it'll be fine.
It grains up real bad in the shadows (think the iso200 rating is a bit higher than it really is?), other than that, go for it, I used it extensively when abroad as its cheap enough to just have a mountain of it and shoot like crazy
Ae1's do make a screaming noise on some speeds (slower than natural 1/125th?) when they need servicing (old oil dries up, need fresh lube in allsorts of places), as its on the slower speeds the slight drag doesn't really affect performance to the extent of bothering worrying about it TBH. I.E. 1/30th might come up more like 1/20th
