Thinking about it, I will do this the proper way and perhaps wait till next year (they only do half and full Iron Man) and in the meantime do some sprints. I've just joined the East London club and they have proper coached training.
I'm sure I was over ambitious and arrogant thinking that I can just walk in without any proper training :-)

Well, I'm hoping to squash my training in this year. I spent 6 months last year on my back (1 month ICU, 2/3 months hospital...) with several lung drains. I really only started training properly in January, but am hoping to use a few early season marathons and middle distance tri's to boost my fitness for late summer and for longer distances next year.
