Set off up gipsy hill at 4pm, about 2hrs later than planned. Big red sun hanging low in the sky warming my right shoulder, mist in the valley below Caterham. Orange light on the church tower. Took a wrong turn down a deteriorating bridleway, picked my way through the cold bright woods round boulders and ruts on my new carbon rims, finally found a good road south and pegged it down to make turners hill before dark. Numb toes in the dusk on the seemingly endless descent, cant see the road in the oncoming headlights, warmed up climbing ditchling beacon and reached the top with orion looking down at me, still an electric blue sky to the west. Hit 45mph down into brighton. Smoked a fag on the beach and threw stones at the sea.
