  • You're entitled to your opinions, but what is this book of which you speak ? 2001 is based on a short story b Clarke called The Sentinel and that finishes at the point where they uncover the monolith on the moon. There is a later book, but is based totally on the screenplay anyway.

    It is still worth reading the book, as it greatly clarifies what is only alluded to in the film. The ideas which Clarke develops in it go further in some ways and some of the philosophy behind them is explained. I think it is one of the few science fiction books which is a must-read, even though I also think that its ideas are simply wrong. :)
