Finally got this in a rideable state. Took enough time.
I had planned on using the limit screws to pick a gear on the cassette that I could put up with single-speed as a stop-gap before getting some shifters. What I didn't realise was that the limit screws only give you about 10mm adjustment. I ended up doing a wee trick I found on t'internet of putting a very short gear cable through the barrel adjuster of the derailleur and clamping it.
The 34T will be getting replaced by a 42T sometime this week hopefully.
Oh, one more thing. She currently weighs in at a rather nice 8.5kg
