Project 'bring brickman into the 20th century', with STI's and 700c wheels. yet another project on the go. Was hoping I could get it done in 24hrs, but might take a few days till some bits arrive, so will reside in the man shed till then.
Brifters were almost non-functional, they seem to have been lubricated with wd40 (or worse) and then left outside/ somewhere dusty, and the inevitable gunging happened.
Took a swift 28minutes to strip down to F&F, then a few hours with some serious degreaser (and pigeon shit remover). Awaiting a fresh stem from number6, some fresh gear outer (somehow I've used 50m of the stuff in the past 12months?) and fresh brake pads.
Frame has typically trek paint (poor) but is sound. wasn't anything fancy when it was new (£500 worth or so) but still.
I'd heard these 90s low end bikes were heavy, but I wasn't quite expecting it to be as heavy as it was. Then I realised, water bottle, was still full, of green stinking slime. Lovely.
