Yes Linc, they do have braking surfaces, in fact the front one has been used for a brake for a short period, then it was painted over with a permanent marker, the rear one is still a virgin.

they can still be used for fixed, the buyer just needs to use 'rotafix' method. i don't have lock-rings on either bike and i use leg braking up here in hilly rossendale.

loveclughfixie: you have to be a brave person to ride the track without solid rear sprocket. unless you have seen these wheels i really wouldnt comment ... rotafix is a method for putting a sprocket on, then you use a LOCKRING and a tool to SECURE the sprocket ... remember this is not stichup ebay - this a forum of fellow cyclists - looking out for each other....

funny that...i got it off a professional track rider's site who rides on/off track with out lockrings. there are plenty of others who ride without lockrings using rotafix. i'm 17 stone and ride all the hills around here without a lockring with no problems at all.
and as for stripping threads using rotafix, i'll be surprised if anyones strong enough.
as for eluding to the fact i'm trying to 'stitch' someone up...what? i was trying to be helpful...only to get flamed by some prick who, i assume thinks he knows better.
the pressure required to rotafix with the hands on the wheel is greater than the friction of the tyres on the road surface before a skid ensues, therefore rotafix is perfectly safe if executed correctly.

No, he just damaged and weakened them. They don't strip until the sprocket starts unwinding.

Mavic Ellipse Wheelset for sale.
Both lockring threads knackered. On one side there's a 17t sprocket and le lockring glued with weldtite. Can be removed. The wheelset is perfectly fine if you want to use them for track or freewheel. I will not be liable if you use them on your fixie skidder and the sprocket would come off when you least expect it. Rimtape and wheelnuts included.
