For road racing, aerodynamics is the problem which will keep discs off racing bikes. That and slow wheel changes.
For fat MAMILs riding sportives, the combination of high rider weight and low rider skill places more demands on the brakes, and the same applies to touring bikes and tandems, so it's nice that people are working on disc brakes which work properly with integrated brake/shift levers for the CX market, but for proper road racers there is no problem for discs to solve.
