Digital marketing/social media consultancy opportunity
Living Streets, the national charity working to create safe, attractive and enjoyable streets, is launching a new website in April 2012. The new site, built on Drupal, will allow users to register and interact, offering a direct home for our community and campaigning activity. The website will also bring in our other sites: www.walktoschool.org.uk and www.mylivingstreets.org.uk, our online tool for logging walking miles.
The new site will be launched in advance of May, throughout which Living Streets will be running a month long event, the Great British Walking Challenge, when we’ll be urging people to log their miles, steps or minutes walked on the Living Streets site to see how many miles we can collectively walk between Land’s End and John O’Groats. As part of the challenge we’ll also be running our successful annual initiative Walk to Work Week, when workplaces will be able to run their own walking challenges.
We’re advertising for a freelance digital marketing and social media consultant to help drive traffic to the new site and sign ups to the Great British Walking Challenge. The role will also involve updating our social media strategy to ensure we’re using our channels effectively and developing effective benchmarks to measure impact, including setting up goals and funnels through Google Analytics.
We’re looking for a consultant for approximately 15 days throughout March/April 2012 at £200/day. The role will be primarily based at our London office on Wentworth Street, E1, though some remote work may be possible. We anticipate the role beginning in the last week of March 2012.
The consultant will be required to:
Review and update Living Streets’ social media strategy, coordinating with stakeholders to ensure its effectiveness and advising on adoption of relevant social media techniques into the charity’s culture
Plan and deliver a social media campaign to drive traffic to the organisation’s new website and drive sign ups to a month-long event in May, the Great British Walking Challenge.
Raise Living Streets’ profile by developing its presence on social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, and other similar community sites.
Develop effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of its social media use, and analyse, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximise results
Advise on and set up Google Analytics tracking, including goals and funnels, and provide informal training to the marketing and communications team on effective use of these tools
Requirements:
* Strong project management or organisational skills * In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc.) and how they can be deployed in different scenarios * Experience of working with the charity sector is desirable, including delivery of high profile campaigns and events * Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format, and build and maintain relationships * Experience of working with Google Analytics and Adwords * Good technical understanding and can pick up new tools quickly * Good knowledge of principles of SEO * Experience of marketing, PR and community management * Experience of working with Engaging Networks software is desirable.

Hi all,
Thought we'd advertise this here as we have lots of customers and friends of the cave on the forum.
For those who don't know already, we are a small business operating out of our workshop in Highgate. We sell, build and maintain vintage bikes, fixies, track bikes etc..
We have a huge stock of bikes and components that need listing on either ebay or the website. We are looking to take on someone as an intern who can help with this a few days a week. You'd need a good knowledge of bike parts and know enough to be able to roughly determine the era of a given part. You should also be able to construct titles and descriptions that include information that customers need to know regarding specific parts i.e. BCD of a chainset.
As this is probably the most important factor, we'll devise a small test of identifying an item that you'd be required to pass (please don't let this put you off!).As this role involves a lot of typing, you should be relatively fast, a confident writer and have a good grasp of spelling and grammar.
You should also be confident arranging and photographing items, knowing what to include close-ups of etc..You'll need to be a confident at using a computer and the internet. Our system is simple enough, but a good understanding of how these kind of things work is always good. A strong understanding of ebay is required too.
The work will involve packing and booking out parcels for delivery at home and abroad, so good box folding and Stanley knife wielding skills would be helpful because you will be occasionally helping out with packing.
A good pair of legs, strong enough to power you up Archway road to the post office carrying (hopefully!) large sacks of goodies for posting is also a bonus!
We will pay your travel expenses (within reason) as well as the basic minimum wage for your age bracket.
This position will hopefully appeal to those who are currently between jobs, fresh from uni or just looking for a strong reference.
We are hoping to move into a shop fronted premises later this year so there is the possibility of something more permanent down the line.
One major perk of the job is the almost infinite number of bike parts we have here, never again will you be scratching around looking for that missing SR crank arm etc.
Plus there's free tea, coffee, biscuits, laughter and friends.
To apply, just email me a CV (if you have one) as well as around 200 words on your relationship with cycling (ooh-er!) and what you feel you can bring to the job.
Cheers!

That's better. It's a private commercial enterprise, not a charity.

I'm an accredited National Standards Instructor and British Cycling ride leader with mechanic experience. Also worked on various community cycling projects for/with Centro and Sustrans as well as with LBS's. If anyone hears of anything that might be up my street, please get in touch. I definitely have to move within the next few months!

I need work.
Can't rap, hate photocopying and love being creative.
Hook me up.

would you photocopy for £14/hr?
For a brief time (3week) I did the night shift making up manuals for contractors, pay was extroidinary for the level of effort required, but mind numbing and hard to stay with it around 4am. -

how many hours per night?
sounds like fun.

haha, no was at least 8 hours a night, sometimes as much as 10/11 depending how much there was to be done.
but overnight not even so much as a coffee machine left on, only a basic office kitchen in another building about a 5minute walk away...My proper jobs contract came up (marketing consultant for a decent size geomatics outfit), and they asked me to do about 50% more for 20% less, reduced hours and take a few benefits away, so I suggested I'd earn more on the photocopy deal at another place than I would with those penny pinchers and good luck to them. 5days later I was elbow deep in toner and cash. Awesome :D
I'm looking for about a months work in London in may/june; anything from making coffee to fettling bikes :P pay is irrelevant, just something!

I'm currently doing my Graphic Design degree so I'd love something in that area, although I'm prepared to do anything really, I just need the monies. -

Hi all,
I am looking for work experience for this summer and someone suggested I try the forum. I am currently in Year 12 (lower sixth) and looking to find a week/fortnight work placement in an engineering company of some sort. If there are any engineers on here that think I could apply to your workplace I would greatly appreciate the tip.
Obviously I like bicycles a lot, but something outside of the area of cycling would be preferable, as all the experience I have to date is based around cycling and some diversity would be nice. That said, I do like bikes, so anything would be really helpful actually.
PM me or post here if you have an idea, or want a proper CV.
Many thanks,
Paul

Paul, now is a bit late to be applying for such a position but there is still time. I recommend having a long think about what in engineering excites you and what you find interesting. So many companies will receive a standard, "I like engineering and so I thought I'd get some experience." type letters, so if you want to get an experience that you actually learn from and enjoy, rather than making tea, sorting offices, and cleaning equipment, I would write a covering letter for each company you send your CV to explaining why it is you want to work for them and what it is that inspires you and excites you.
Do some research on each company, showing them that you are willing to do some research and know something already will make them more likely to get you in and get you doing something worthwhile.
When it comes to applying for jobs or uni, you will then have something to actually talk about in your interview. Real experience. Your efforts, motivation, and enthusiasm will win you contacts that will come in extremely handy when looking for paid work.

Thanks for the pointers, I'll make sure to work on the covering letters.
