  • I've also got one out by super glueing the allen key in before

  • Is it possible to run cantis on front and Vs on back using a dual pull lever?????

  • Yes, but it won't work very well.

To make it work properly ou'd need to mount the cables at different distances from the lever's pivot to cope with the different ratio of cable movement to brake movement. And the canti straddle angle would screw it up even more.

  • Is it possible to run cantis on front and Vs on back using a dual pull lever?????

it is possible but I wouldn't do it, cantis have a different pull than v brakes so I would use a pair and a lever to match

  • you can get those problem solver things, but it seems like a bit of a ball ache

  • Try this?

  • meh, not clever enough to co-ordinate so many actions - I can barely make the pedals go around without trying to do the same with the handlebars, trying to deal with a mallet as well is already pushing me to the edge. If I had to think about two different levers on one hand I'd be falling off as much as Rob!!!

Next stupid question: Canti bosses look pretty similar to Vbrake bosses - I take it they're in different places or summat?

Realised that the missus spent £40 on a dress just because she felt like it - ergo I'm exercising my right to buy shit that's actually valuable (she's not even taken the tag off it for over a month). Would order those pompino forks today if I can run brakes on them.

Neil - I am right that the bastard has Vs, aren't I? This could all be rather moot if I've paid less att'n than I realised!

  • Canti bosses = v-brake bosses.

U-brake mounts go up near the crown.

  • supersweet - I just got my dumbass questions the wrong way around!!! (now where's that credit card)

  • I might have found an answer to the single brake lever issue for the right side of sensible money. Just waiting on a reply from the supplier on a couple of questions but tandem kit seems to offer the world of Polo many answers... I'll let you know.

  • the promax levers?

  • Yup... you're going to tell me they are crap now ain't you :-(

  • no, I think some of the london lot have been using them pretty successfully, they do come in short and long pull though so make sure you get the right ones http://www.bikecare.co.uk/product_info.php?acc=Brake%20Levers&id=89

  • You can get them for less. Best I've found is £20.45 delivered.

I was actually looking at this:

    http://www.bikecare.co.uk/product_info.php?acc=Brake%20Levers&id=443

**£15.98 inc Delivery. **The lever is a little shorter by the looks of it. It's RHS but it would flip over, just look a little rough. I've asked for clarification if it's V and also what size adjusters you need. A couple of long barrel M10's are about £2 on't bay. Including delivery the whole lot could be under £19.

  • get one of these and do the rest yourself (or ask rob)

  • I'm in the process of making my MTB more polo compatible. I've ditched the outer and inner rings to give me just a 32t front and am planning to run 1x9 as I can't afford a tensioner / SS kit at the moment and also like the idea of having a higher gear for getting to and from the court. I'm running a long cage Deore Shadow rear mech and want to try and get it as high as possible to keep it tucked out of the way.

Having looked at a couple of chain length calculators my 16.5" rear stay with a 32t front 28t largest rear cog is giving me 50" of chain. I've seen trials riders running much shorter than this to keep the mech tucked up. If I set the end stops so I couldn't use the 28t my largest cog would be the second one in at 24t, this works out at 49" of chain. I'm wondering if I could get away with 48" or 47" and keeping the tension a little higher. I'm not to bothered about super smooth shifting but could do with not killing the mech as I might yet move it to other uses at some point in the future.

    Any thoughts?

  • Try it and see if it explodes

  • Anyone got a spare deraillieur for him?

  • I have got a spare on lurking in my parts bin. It might yet be the ghetto tensioner when I go single speed as it has a barrel adjuster, unlike most of the new ones. It could really do with new jockey wheels though. Two years with no change of chain on the Sirrus was something of a false economy..

I'm going to go with the recommended length and see how it goes. I can always take another couple of links out later on.

  • I might have found a much better solution to the gear question.

Presently 32t front with 9 speed block on the back. I seem to favour 2nd or 3rd gear which gives me a 34 or 39" gear. The chain line is bollocks though and the middle ring is the one with the most profiling on it so it's not going to last long.

I've got a 22t inner ring that I can put back on. If I go to 16, 15 or 14 on the back I get 35, 38, 40 inch respectively. I was thinking ghetto tensioner with an old rear mech I have but then I got thinking (it does happen once in a while) and checked to see if I could get a magic gear.

    22 x 15 gives 16.366"
    22 x 14 gives 16.488"

My stays measure in at 16.5" so guessing 22x14 would be pretty good and 22x15 possible but with a bit of a loose chain.

Anybody played the magic gear game before and got any thoughts before I get busy with the spanners?

  • 39" would be better, a few people have used magic gear and it been ok but skips once the chain stretched,

have a look at this thread for gear inches guides http://www.lfgss.com/thread38580-6.html

  • Yeah, mines about 43".

    #bragging

  • mines 42.9"

    #robsabitbigger

  • Interesting... I've had a couple of goes on Robs bike and found it quite nicely geared. I certainly like the speed of engagement of that freewheel but that's a whole different kettle of financial ruin.

If you look at my block and the two rings I have the 22t seems to be closer to the mark than the 32:

    http://www.gear-calculator.com/#KB=22,32&RZ=11,12,13,14,16,18,21,24,28&GR=DERS&TF=85&UF=2050&SL=2

If I go with the ghetto tensioner to get better chain line Will has mentioned having a load of spacers and cogs to go at. No reason I can't have 14t & 13t cogs and shift via the barrel adjuster on the mech depending on how I'm feeling.
