  • I left the house stopped at the sorting office and got my crank arms, then looped through Brockley and down Queens Road- zipped through Brockley with a smile on my face, then turned into the wind down the Queens road and dropped to pretty much walking pace.

Stopped of at Edwardes and handed in the large pile of bits that I have assembled over the last six months and they said yes- they can turn them into a set of cranks that don't go "bang! bang! bang!", so I'll drop the bike off Friday morning for them to work their magic. Hurrah!

Left Edwardes, turned sideways to the wind, and got caught in a sudden gust- wobbled right, stayed on, then absolutely SHOT down the road- not pedalling, just propelled by the wind.

    Awesome.

Spotty rain on the last of my commute, stopped at Monmouth for a coffee and walked the length of China Town to the office, admiring the multitude of different fruits, vegetables and meats in cases and bags in front of the restaurants.

  • Wow never noticed those signs I shoot through that bit all the time. You mean the bus lane that leads onto New Oxford st right?

Yes, that's the place. There is a sign saying busses only and a round sign with a bus on, red edges, white back ground. Below it, a round sign, red edges, white back ground with a bicycle on it. To me, it looks like it would mean: buses and bicycles only - but it means no cycling - why not put a line through it then like some other European countries

But you didn't actually spot anyone.

  • But you didn't actually spot anyone.

    Well spotted

  • But you didn't actually spot anyone.

    Ah- forgot that bit!

Chap, fixed, nice sort of light green frame, down The Road of Hell, I really liked the frame, not sure on the bullhorns though.

  • Haha, yup - 2nd piece arrives today/tomorrow :-) It was a bit of a CSB.

I thought you headed up to St Johns Circus then took a right, you confused me by taking the left when you did!

Also i felt like a bit of hipster in my life today but as it turns out today was not a HED day. Struggled my arse off keeping upright on w'loo bridge this morn.

you too. so you were saying...SRAM red, one piece at a time...

on second thoughts, save it for next time

  • Wow never noticed those signs I shoot through that bit all the time. You mean the bus lane that leads onto New Oxford st right?

You should pay more attention, FFS.

Well, it follows the visual style that's documented in the Highway Code. Highly recommended read.

  • I thought Monday was a lot more windy.. Today seemed no problem. Sub 20 minute commute.

I did spot a girl on a light blue Dolan. A strong rider but RLJing, pavment hoping, ped scattering, undertaking and generally riding like a bellend i'm sad to say

  • I spotted Planet X track/carbon wheels/raphaninja attired commuter at Borough again. Had a rather lovely blast down the OKR, didn't notice the wind so much either.

  • Well, it follows the visual style that's documented in the Highway Code. Highly recommended read.

I know that, but it would still make more sense to have a line through it. I know it would never happen, but one can always dream right...

  • I know that, but I think it would still make more sense to have a line through it.

ftfy. You're completely right, of course. Road signs are made to be as complicated and senseless as possible.

Thanks :-) And yes, why make it simple when you can complicate things

  • why not put a line through it then like most of other European countries?!

    No cycling

    Verbot für Radfahrer

    Accès interdit aux cycles

    Transito vietato alle biciclette

    Entrada prohibida a bicicletas

    Gesloten voor fietsen

Gesloten voor fietsen/Accès interdit aux cycles

  • I either never noticed you're not allowed to cycle down that bit, or noticed and decided to forget about it, but I don't really get it... I suppose it's because there's not enough space for a bus to pass a cyclist down that bus lane, but neither is there in some of the lanes you are allowed to cycle in around that area.

  • Twp PoPo's crossing Dalston Junction, the older of the two actually stopped the nipper from crossing the road on the Red Man as peds. First time I've ever seen that. When asked if he would get the wagged finger, Older PoPo looked at me with a certain disdain, nipper giggled and got bollocked.
I chortled, it amused me greatly.

  • ^^Schick has explained all this before. It's to do with the oncoming, right-turning traffic i.e. it's for your safety.

  • I thought he might have, makes sense I guess.

  • Jamaica Road.

A wasteland for spotting these days.

I was there and I have a hat and a beard. Fastest commute of the year first sub 45 minutes. so rather pleasing. Out for a few beers tonight, hopefully the wind will have dies down

I still don't know what you look like

  • Can we have a special thread for all the wisdom of the great Schick?

  • But then I'd see you more right?

  • Nicking cyclists for RLJing is a joke. Resources would be better spent apprehending drivers on phones.

Two incidents this morning and the same police officers I conversed with last week regarding van drivers using their phones warning me about filtering. I did ask them if they were able to multi task. This didn't go down well.

Loads of Popo down Kingsland Road today. Some fuckwit hipster twat on a yellow geared frame decided to RLJ past not one but two of the officers at seperate lights (both on RED!). I kept catching him between the lights and he was laughing about it. Finally there were no more rozzers at the junctions and he thought he was free.

One more RLJ and a Police car coming the other way did a U turn and blocked his path and nicked him. He thoroughly deserved it and I hope he gets more of a punishment for failure to stop for the police when requested.

I bet if he was in an accident with a car, he would want them to stop for him, so why doesn't he stop when he obviously knows he is in the wrong.

    tl;dr

  • I still don't know what you look like

    Take a guess;

  • ^ No, but you do bear a striking resemblance in the right lighting.

more about there not being enough space for a cyclist to pass a bus (and the right-turn, obv)
