Might make life easy to cut two 50cm bits for me then. I can pick them up, drop one at mine and cart the other one down to polo for Salman.

With ~10mm OD shaft tube the cross dowel should fit nicely, could even run a couple of them through the shaft to really clamp things in. For 50 of each collected it's £6.34. If people think it would work and are interested in splitting the order then let me know.
