Grit will seize anything up- the front mech on my girlfriends bike would (once moved by hand with sufficient force) simply stay where it was moved to.
It was so stiff that it broke the left hand shifter.
Liberal squirts of GT85 and manipulating the mech back and forth, and presto- worked again.
