Cyclists who willfully ignore pedestrians on zebra crossings need fucking strangling.
Dunno if anyone else has noticed, but the traffic lights at this junction at the top of Charlotte St have recently been ripped up in favour of give way signs and four zebra crossings. I see this as a positive, progressive move by Camden council. It's not only slowed traffic, but also smoothed out the flow so there are noticably less queues than before and no race away from the green light.
However, the whole thing is sadly let down by monumentally selfish bellends on bicycles. Most mornings this week I've seen pedestrians already on the crossing have to wait because people have no intention of stopping. Worse still, this morning a woman crossing in front of a stationary (not to be confused with stationery) truck was almost taken out by someone suddenly riding past the far side of it.
In the junction's previous guise it was always cyclists doing their level best to screw up by ignoring the red light on the segregated cycle lane on Howland St. This meant cars turning left had to constantly be on the lookout (and often give way to) cyclists who simply shouldn't ever be there.
Cycling like a twat through the old junction mainly put the rider at risk of being hit by a car. It's depressing that completely innocent pedestrians are now much more likely to be hit by a bike.
