My tax year ends on Wednesday so I need to spend while I can, I need a new back-up drive...
Do I go networked storage? Or do I just get a 2Tb external drive and turn my old MBP into a server and build a home network? Is that possible? Rcecomendations? Too complicated for an old fart (90s Mac Guru) like me to figure out?
I'd go with https://www.crashplan.com/consumer/store.vtl
But if you want a local drive to back up to I would go with network storage, sell your old mac and get some money for it while its still worth something ;) no point setting up your old mac as a server - with the NAS you can also use some of the space to store movies, music etc

Buy a NAS enclosure:
http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Networking/cat/Network-Attached-Storage/subcat/Desktop-NAS-2-bay - £55
Then put two of any size drive you like in there:
http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Storage/cat/Hard-Drive---Internal
comes with a large font setup guide, you'll be fine
