Arseburgers :-( I can totally see why washers are not the ideal option. Looks like roughly £6 for a set of bolts or £30 for a bash to replace the outer. Why is it your parts bin always holds tons of things you don't need and non of what you do need??

Used some thick washers or spacer type things for a while without any problems

ok, re. poles etc, think the easiest is to just collect from Bristol, so if anyone can't or doesn't want to wait that long please amend your order.
I just paid £36 for a decent pair of poles to keep me going! if anyone is looking for poles you want to find out what sort of aluminium they are, you're aiming for 7075 Alu, which is what the Perros are, at a push if your a new player you can probably get away with 6061 Alu, with that in mind i spotted the following that might be worth a go if you need a pole ASAP:
http://www.sportsdirect.com/volkl-phantastic-ski-poles-ladies-927031
These are last seasons Womens version of what i bought today, so i'm assuming that the should be 7075 Alu, however as they're womens poles they are slightly smaller diameter (16mm instead of 18mm) they'll be a bit lighter but possibly not quite as strong. Although one of my longer lasting ski poles was actually a kids one this size.http://www.sportsdirect.com/atomic-uni-sport-ski-poles-mens-927028
These are 6061 Alu from what i can find on the Manufacturers websiteAnother thing when you buy poles i'd try and get at least 120cm length so you have plenty of aluminium to play with, your finished mallet is gonna be somewhere between 90-100cm depending on preference.
Thank you

I think I've just struck it lucky :-) Just been having another look and I'd forgotten that when my BB was fitted that they offset to the RHS with the washers. I think they were scared of clearance of the ICS mounts or something as their more of a road than MTB shop, that or the guy felt the weight of the frame and figured I'd be living in a low gear.
At the time I didn't realise how much offset there was. I actually bend the chain less going to my smallest cog at the back than I do going to my biggest! It's almost perfect chainline at about the 4th cog up.
I'd rather have the top end of the 32 for getting to the court but 51" top end is available with the 22t. It also means I can ditch a feckload more of the chain and two rings which can only help with weight. I'll leave it until I've played a couple of games using just my granny ring but it looks like a zero cost solution.

With the bolt down the pole method it's pretty easy to make mallets at tourneys, so if people want mallets for Bristol and we can only pick up there then I'll be taking things down with me to make a few at the court. Although if Salman or Andy do go to London before I'd prefer to have played a few games on them before I get there.
I've also just got some end caps for shafts delivered, they ain't quite as good as the ones you sometimes get with the perros and don't fit quite as tightly but are definetly better than a 5p and tape. I'll bring some Sunday and anyone can have one for a beer. -

Damn, i've just taped mine up....

True. But unless you can find me a tensioner and a 13t or 14t cog for free you're still going to have to spin your little leggies faster than I do.
As for end caps it's an excuse to drink Leffe and play with a penknife.

I pulled a glued on 5p off mine, have a look on sunday, they seem OK although I might scout around for something else that's a little more rounded on top for comfort.

Anybody tried using http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milliput? . I've heard of people using it to make grips before now and at £2 a tube you could do a whole batch of shafts for bugger all.
You can get enough to do all the polo shafts in Manchester for about £2

i've got some Milliput here if you want to give it a go....

Might well take you up on that when I get my mallet bits in. My dad probably has a load knocking around from his model railway efforts.

main problem with expoxy type stuff is it's quite brittle, I used something similar to stop my shaft rotating (fnar) and after a few hits of the ball it started breaking off, would have less force at the other end but I reckon it could still get cracked pretty easy.
I've done a little measurig of my shaft thickness (more fnar) and emailed a plastics manufacturer who have something that looks perfect on there site for some samples. Main problem will be small orders as they look like a proper industrial type outfit that would usually deal in 1000s. If they're good then maybe the rest of the UK will want in? -

Hey Fixed&Broken, you looking for a 13/14T cassette ring? I've got a couple lying around somewhere you can have if you're coming polo on Sunday.

I will probably think it's a stupid idea tomorrow because I may be tired.

best get to sleep now then
You will need shorter bolts or washers. Bolts would be better.
