ok, so lets start a list for a group order of poles (& heads), i've contacted London about shippping costs and i'll update when i get them, but obviously the more people oredring the less the shipping will be each, for now maybe assume about £2.50 each.
The Poles and heads that are available can be viewed here: http://www.lhbpa.org/shop/
I would like to propose that we start a list here, choose a cut off date (Monday evening) for everyone to Paypal me the money for their order, then i will make one bulk order for everyone with LHBPA.
Can everyone add to this list in the same format:
1: Adam - 2x Perro Poles & 2x 3mph heads (Blue Cheater 120mm) = £28
2: TUM - 1x Perro Poles & 1 x 3mph heads (Black Cheater 120mm) = £14 -

Or arrange for pick up in Brizzle? John H can be pretty accommodating with that sort of thing (as long as he can find folk to help carry the stuff). -

We need then before Brizzle otherwise yeah....

for everyone paying £7 for a mallet head, il do them for £5!
available in cheater and non cheater, im taking a DIY stance on this, if a head is capped or something fair enough pay for it but im not paying £7 for someone to drill the holes for me -

I really should have stayed at the pub last night and gotten drunk enough to sleep. 4am this morning and I finally turned off the PC having read more about Polo than I'd ever thought existed.... I even found the origins of Chan's famous cat avatar!
A few questions:
Is there any difference between the Rik and Perro shafts?
Is there any restriction on the use of the cheater heads in competition? I'm guessing not.I made the mistake of looking at http://www.boxwoodbicyclepolo.com/ Now I don't think wood is the answer but it has gotten me thinking about going to a 75deg angle on the shaft. I can see how it would lay the head at a much better angle on the swing and also aid dribbling, it's going to be more like a Hockey head in that regard. Any thoughts from the more seasoned players? I guess you could get that with a 3pmh head but then the bottom fixing might be a bit awkward, but then Epoxy could solve that an facilitate a modicum of solvent abuse in the process.

Is there any difference between the Rik and Perro shafts? - not really, perro ones are generally regarded as stronger and industry standard but its personal preference, theres not alot in it

thinking about going to a 75deg angle on the shaft - a few people in london and USA do this, give it a go you might like it

Riks are maybe a little thicker walled I think, both are good though. I prefer the riks as it means I can keep the shaft thinner at the end using an m4 bolt to attach the head. I've never played with an angled head but not so sure it'll work well for hardcourt. I think on grass you tend to hit and chase more, whereas we do a bit more close ball control and pushing and shuffling with the flat side, I reckon an angle would interfere with this

Hmmm... I'm just thinking Hockey and Golf all use an angle, it just seems to put the head level to the ground which has to offer more control than a head that at 25deg or so. It might also aid release on a hooked head as it's sloped so more likely to slide off. Thinking about my arm position it's at about 45deg from the torso unless the ball is really close in to the bike but even then it's never in line with my body. 90deg is simple but mechanically I think there are better solutions.
I was an early adopter of wacky feather angles on canoe paddles. Traditional paddles were ~80deg feather, for freestyle most people have now moved to 40deg to reduce wrist rotation when surfing waves or doing paddle spins. It's amazing the impact just 5deg had in that sport so I'm keen to put some thought into this one.
Can we all please use this thread for all polo related things from now on.
Just makes it easier to manage the information, and i need to clean up the lose threads. Once we move to our new forum this thread will be locked. The last post will contain a link to our new home. So don't make any new threads about polo, just bang it all in here.
Ok, list for thursday:
9.Will (Another one)
10.Scott
Itinerary:
6.30-7.30 - Normal all-in social throw-ins/give everyone at least one game
7.30-8.30 - Divide players into Seniors (at least 1 year's polo) and Beginners - running throw-ins within those groups (alternating between Senior session and Beginner sessions)
8.30-9.30 - Team games only. We will play as many round robin matches as we can, concentrating on match play. All beginners not currently in a team will be placed in a make-up team for the evening. Advice/coaching available for all new teams - just pick a senior player to watch your game and give feedback etc.
