Sounded like a pretty balanced positive debate. Heard summary on R4 this morning - the integrated lights sounded like a good idea to me. RLJing pisses me off, and the guy that brought it up, Bob Stewart, is a cyclist, who has been hit by traffic twice.
Harriet Harman's office have replied to my email to her to say, " I am putting out a call to all cyclists in Southwark to let me know areas that could be improved so these areas can be sorted out. Southwark's Labour Council have a strong commitment to cycle safety and have signed up to the Times 'Cities fit for Cycling' campaign. We need to work together to make Southwark a safer cycling borough.
Please do let me know your ideas on where and how we can make roads in Southwark safer for cyclists."
My current thinking is that I want to say changes need to be for the whole of central London, and, from my experinece, need to focus on increasing cyclists' legitimicy on the roads - for me the biggest problem I face is that no other road users seem to think cyclists have any right to use the road - we are tolerated trespassers.
