I think when they designed it (must have been 5 years ago?) LOCOG were terrified of being lumped with "white elephant" venues that no one used and cost a fortune to keep. I think 6K is a reasonable crowd for a venue post Games in that a lot of the interest will fade away - it's just a shame that during the Games proper so many of those 6K tickets will be allocated to suits.
I wonder if during the Games they will have a returns box office like they do at Wimbledon so that when the suits get bored and leave half way through someone who actually gives a damn and is on site can slip in to their seats?

wondering why do some of the cyclist hop on to road bikes once they are off the track?

gearing / more spinny to work out the EPO ?
freewheel and lower gearing = more manouevreable

there is more than a little bit of product placement too... a photo of a kitted up hoy or pendleton on your bike wouldn't do any harm to the image, would it? -

And I was thinking it was a warm down.
-
• #333
I would have thought that it was down too!
i didn't understand this too Laner -

I believe there's a maximum number of entrants per nation, but you're also allowed to have trade teams present.
So we'd used up our allocation already and got Crampton in as a trade team representative.

I was waiting for you to pop in :)
Very well done to Jess.
I was allowed to cheer her on Sunday when there weren't any Aussies on track and you were on the big screen. #fameiwannaliveforever -

Best race of the evening (which I watched on the internet) was the womens elimination race as part of the omnium. Did anyone else see this? It was on after 9pm after the coverage on BBC2 ended. It was brilliant. Laura Trott must have avoided about five or six eliminations by a close whisker and managed to hang on, eventually ended up winning it, beating Tara Whitten from Canada who is a very strong contender. Amazing stuff. I think she is only 18 as well. Definitely one to watch in the future.
This^ I can't believe she did so much work and still clung on for the win.

Is the Pringle going to be a cycling only venue?
Apparently, categorically, yes.
-
• #340
yeah, that is for concerts and stuff not with the track usable according to a quick google.
I have been there with 14,000 present during the Berlin 6. Can't think how it would be that different, unless they actually make people sit on the track.

Despite it being a sell out there was quite a few empty seats about......
Well i'm led to believe there were no standing tickets sold. All those people standing had seats you know, but loads of people favoured to stand.

wondering why do some of the cyclist hop on to road bikes once they are off the track?
A few reasons.
Most teams use quite fragile tubs - you don't want them picking up any crap from riding around track centre. Road bikes also give a range of gears for warming up/cooling down on the rollers.
-
• #343
You don't want to warm down on rollers while you're wobbly and have a massive gear fitted nor do you want to wait for your mech to swap the gear. Road bikes also mean you can pop down to the shops for some beer and pies between races...

the only slight criticism i have of the venue is..the urinals are too low.. michael hopkins must have designed them for toddlers.. piss poor imho lol.. but the layout of the building is fab and the materials , finishes and detailing superb.. the continous thoroughfare circuit/track at public entrance level was the best bit for me and sightlines throughout are pretty good.
i personally think that 6,000 is a good number for a venue, esp the proximity of the crowd to the action. the acoustics for a full house trackside was incredible. you could felt the vibration transfer through the track wall as the team pursuit rolled past with a mexican wave of roars around us.
for a test event all appeared to go quite smoothly.. behind the scenes no doubt hundreds were involved, if it was anything like the MTB test event i marshalled at last summer.
I do hope there are public sessions at the london velodrome after the paralympics is done, manchester has a great programme, i reckon it would be popular here

yes when do they let the fixie skidders on there
what cycling club do i join to get on the track ?
i only really want to do 10 or so laps just to try out the banking -

I esp like the fact that you were not confined to your seat. Wondering around the track was great to snap some nice angles:

How can urinals be too low? You've never pissed on the ground before?

Its no cheap to go ride the track is it, couldn't imagine training at it a lot considering how much it is per session!
