@ stevi, well in, if running is now making you feel better rather than worse you're in a good place.
Would recommend mapmyrun rather than google maps as its a bit more functional for planning routes.

Cheers
running always made me feel good, it was getting the motivation to go. it was the not running that was making me feel guilty. spirals etc
google maps looks more innocuous on my work PC (IT guy surprised me with a 24" widescreen monitor the other day, which is nice, but my back faces the owner's office so it's even more obvious when I'm slacking) as I could be looking for a client's office or summat.
will have a look at home though, I think I registered there ages ago.

Apologies EEI, for once in my life I didn't mean to offend.
I'm not offended. It's just sometimes I'm not sure I got my point across, being forrun and that...

Apart from that I'm being contrary, so I can please everyone, because I crave the attention I missed on when I fucked up my adult life after being a child prodigy and such.

Average pace excluding walking at the start was 5.25minute/Kilometre or 8.43 min/miles if you prefer.
Fuck, you're fast... I withdraw my offer of running together.

Well I've started upping my running over the last month, warming up for the rugby season. I found that the outside of my right foot has gotten really unpleasently numb feeling. First port of call has been to get a new pair of running shoes as my old Brooks Beast are way to old really. Got a pair of Brooks Adrenaline on the suggestion of the girl in the shop. She said the Beasts might be simply to stiff and stopping my foot flexing naturally which combined with the reduced cushioning due to them being rather old and over used may be causing the problem. Does this sound feasible or have I just been talked into another expensive pair of shoes? For the record I'm 196cm, 110kg rugby player and would describe my running as deceptively fast plodding, 46min for 10km at the moment.

Morning after report:
I ran with the knee unsupported to give me a worst case scenario kind of picture and am more than happy at the total lack of twinges that I'd have expected in the afflicted knee. I'll be paying close attention over the coming weeks.
My left ankle is sore this morning, not painfully so, just aching, like I haven't used it like that for a long time (Which I guess is true).
I couldn't sleep for shit last night but accept that this may or may not be related to running.
Fuck, you're fast... I withdraw my offer of running together.
Ha, sorry EEI. -

So definitely no need for a walk or stops. At least I know I will be able to run those 3 miles for Sports Relief without embarrassing myself.

And I've also managed to find a heavily discounted pair of Saucony trail shoes in my size.
From next week I will attempt to runaround the Wansted Flats all the way to Ilford. -

Minimalistic running. My ankles are not ready for that.

In answer to my own question it seems the new shoes have made a huge difference. 7km run last night, feet feel fine today. Moral of this story is replace your running shoes more than once every 3 years.

good lesson learnt!
i work on a basis of roughly 400 miles use, i can probably get away with more now i'm lighter, but i'm pretty anal about it, to the extent i actually track mileage covered in shoes as part of my marathon training plan.
I have got this wrong before and despite my shoes being less than 4 months old i had racked p nearly 600 miles and couldn't work out why my knees were so sore i couldn't run....

went out this evening with the intention of doing a flat 4.4k. got to the junction where I should have turned left for the flat route home but thought "fuck it" and went up over Denmark Hill - 5.4k

I aimed for 5 miles, but forgot how many kilometres it equals (#fail).
Run followed by some strength training in an outdoor gym. I feel pumped up. -

Loving my new trail shoes, by the way.
I wish I bought them instead of Nike Lunrglides which will be obsolete, as I probably settle on running around Wansted Flats. -
• #2894
Oh, my knees definitely stopped hurting today after reaching 3 miles. Maybe I need to run more? :-)

Most niggles disappear after a while.
So I'm trying carbo loading and no brekkie for tomorrow to try to avoid some of my GI issues I've been having recently.
I've just eaten about 250g uncooked weight of pasta and feel thoroughly sick, the bag of crisps before that probably doesn't help!
Will see if that, combined with 0 caffeine tomorrow pro run avoids the issues.

I, on the other hand, have to really fight myself to not have 250g of pasta.
-
• #2897
Don't do it, it was roughly 500g cooked with some bolognese sauce and I've spent the last hour lying on the floor as its the only position that doesn't hurt to be in!
Just as well I'm leaving at 7am tomorrow!

Must be time to taper now?
i.e. sit on the sofa eating icecream, hoping your shins will be ok.

Running on Haytor Sunday. Can't wait.
Enjoy your runs. -

Just carb loaded with 6 pints of ale and a pizza. Will be playing rugby tomorrow against beccehamians at the bottom of corkscrew hill if anyone fancies seeing what a large bearded vomiting irishman looks like
I send my man to run round the park with my Garmin, he carries it on an ermine cushion.
