I've had success with stand-by-appointments with Headmaster salons. They are everywhere and as long as you aren't fussed about who you have cut your hair and make sure not to succumb to up-selling, £25 isn't too bad for a decent haircut. (That being said, I have hair that is pretty easy to handle and I always just ask for a wash and go cut)
