Do you mean that genuine OM lenses stay wide open while you meter, focus and compose and only stop down when you actually fire the shutter?
Yep, they have a little biasing lever that sticks into the camera body which tells the meter which aperture will be used when you release the shutter, and the meter varies the shutter speed accordingly even though it's always metering through a fully open lens. The lens I bought doesn't have 'OM System' written on it so that's why I'm unsure whether it has the biasing lever. If it doesn't then I can just use it on manual stopdown like you say.
It's got the little lever so that's all good. Definitely a big difference over my old 28mm lens - looking forward to it!
