thus I've ordered so tressorex cotton tape (cheaper that the newbaums), scoble be praised.

also rather like doing the tape in the 'merckx' style, (backwards, no sticking tape on the tops) anyone had any experience with how long it stays neat for?

^^^ The tape should stay in place provided you wrap towards the stem first and then go back on yourself so that you have a kind of "under-wrap." That's what I did with some Benotto and it held up fine on a beater for years.

The Newbaums and the cheapo cloth tape from Condor both have sticky backs. It stays in place fine.
