I can confirm that this doesnt work. Happened to me on the tweed run this year. Butters and Trulli pushed me all the way from hyde park where it happened to the kings road.
Fixed it with 20 zip ties. went to ride off and my awesome leper power sheared straight through all of them....

I'm pretty sure there's a cure for that these days.
