  • My girlfriends been whinging about her bike recently (quite rightly too, it's a piece of shit). So I thought I'd build her one. She's had a blast on my bike which is an SE Lager but didn't find it very comfortable. Does anyone have any ideas on a frame/saddle/bars for more of a relaxed comfortable ride? Even better if you're selling any parts like this.

I'd find a small* half decent vintage road bike, mixti, or step though bike (ie complete) with horizontal dropouts. Then add cheap north road bars from SJS (and possibly a short SA stem).

Then depending on the quality of the wheelset, either go SS and keep them (just switching the freewheel for an SS one) or ditch them and build on-one hubs /aci DB spokes / Rigida Snyper / bontrager race lite hardcase in 28c.

For the saddle there's a page on the ladies forum, but from a guess I'd say the Charge Bucket is cheap should be comfortable and comes in colours. These grips are also meant to be good and come in colours.

*edit - size is obviously relative to your GF's height, but IME girls that don't ride much don't like high standover heights, and also it looks like a faff from a skirt POV. Also remember that if you use swept back bars like the north roads then the reach shrinks. If you want less extreme sweep then any old risers from halfords or a bike jumble would be good.
