If you want to try a custom ROM then don't worry too much about resetting it back to default afterwards. You can download the carrier branded firmware your phone came with from a thread on XDA-Developers here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
There is a counter on the phone which will show up that you've flashed a ROM on there but it's very unlikely that o2 will notice it. If you're worried then you can reset the counter using a USB Jig:

Presumably you could also say that you flashed the official ROM multiple times to try and fix the hardware issues

The thought of putting that bloody jingle back on my phone makes me shiver. Just download a standard rom with no carrier branding if you want to wait for the official updates.
After rebooting, this xxlp6 rom isn't actually that bad. Face recognition to unlock is awesome! I suspect it makes one look a bit of a cunt in public though.

The second you root your warranty is gone irrespective of whether you've flashed anything.

you don't need to root to flash though

Good point well made. I've used cwm too often.

Does anyone have an old handset that will send and receive Gmail, and (added bonus requirement) run Strava?
I have to hand my work phone back on Monday when I go to pick up my suit/clear my desk, so would really appreciate a new handset before then!
Cash money (or goods and services) waiting- what have you got?

Ok, vote received for the Huawai Blaze, how about the Orange San Francisco 2, http://www.reghardware.com/2012/02/03/review_orange_san_francisco_2_android_smartphone/
I'd have to unlock it to work with my Voda SIM mind.

An ex-colleague was very pleased with his SF1. Consider the Orange Monte Carlo too, same manufacturer, ZTE, but bigger screen. It looks like the internals of the SF2 are quite similar to the MC.

Yes, they have been taking payment even when they don't have stock. Which generally they haven't, so far.

Definitely. My faulty Prime was picked up by courier the next day and the refund processed very quickly. They also upgraded my replacement to next day delivery free of charge. I'm very happy with the customer service I've had from Ebuyer.
And they have the champagne gold in stock right now:

You'll be waiting until at least August I reckon. People who've seen the screens side by side reckon there is only a slight increase in sharpness. I've been watching quite a lot of HD videos on YouTube and believe me the Prime screen is great. I wouldn't want to pay c. £100 for a slightly sharper one, and the case is nowhere near as nice on the HD.
And oh yes, the GPS is crap, clearly ;)
Ok so it's no Garmin, but this was in my bedroom. I wasn't that bothered if it worked or not, but mine definitely works.
That's exactly my point...
