My missus is going to be one of the drivers during the games. There's a fleet of beemers parked up in Hyde Park for it.
I assume it'll mostly be freeloading family of IOC members rather than anyone interesting though.

I had a meeting about the ORN and its impact on local communities at work the other day- in a word, it is going to be carnage, and for bikes too (alhough to a lesser degree) as some whole road will be closed- particularly bad will be the southern end of Hackney. The guy from the council just shook his head and said: "imagine it really really bad. It's going to be worse."

Will they really be able to hand out fines to everyone who rides in a lane? Surely it's a massive waste of police time, no doubt they'd rather be doing other things with their time and have no real beef with cyclists. I imagine given the carnage that'll be caused anyway on the roads that bikes are better off in the olympic lanes for the good of everyone else? Can we assume fines will be handed out for the first few days then given up on as soon as they realise how unsustainable it is...
Is the critical mass mob planning anything fun for the occasion? -

so they only fine motor vehicles and bikes?
sounds like a fine way to run to work then. no pavement traffic, no crossings to wait at.

I'm riding them. I don't give a fuck. Catch me - fine me.

Is the critical mass mob planning anything fun for the occasion?I don't think we'll know the effectiveness of it until it happens. On one hand, yes, it seems like an impossible law to enforce, but considering how many police (and army!) will be on the streets, it's very possible there will be enforcement officers on all the Olympic routes. They already post plod on junctions to catch RJLers, so why not try to enforce laws/raise revenues by catching naughty cyclists?

Hah! This sounds like a plan.
You could run in a long/loose zig-zag, so if stopped claim to be crossing the road.

HatBeard you fucking genius. I will be taking how ever long a detour is required in order to run along the lanes. Or maybe pony and trap perhaps?

Maybe we could turn this into a Forum olympics game; 'First person to get an Olympic fine', etc.

Me too.

All you need to do is wear a hi-vis jacket and have a walky talky on your belt and you'll be laughing. Its the old case of no one questioning what looks like authority.

None of the Spice Route is on the ORN so 90% of the forum won't notice anyway.
-
• #65
there's a lot of roads that are being kept as 'backup' routes in case there's a problem on the main ORN so theoretically it could jump around a lot given how unreliable the traffic is in london.

Any one on else here doing Olympic Planning for work?
Parts of the NHS will be safe in my hands

Stick to the plan Hippy, just tweak the accent -

Here's the map: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/corporate/london-2012-olympic-route-network.pdf
Not actually that many roads in the East, but as anyone who has driven around this way knows it only takes a small delay somewhere to gridlock huge parts of the road network.

This is most upsetting - the Olympic Family hasn't occupied anything on my route from north London. I may have to take the 'scenic route' along Euston Road when the ORNs are in force.

Those uniforms are like sacks of shit. Ugh.

I know. It all went downhill when they picked the logo for Olympics.

Did Sainsburys sell off a load of their old stock of uniforms?
The extension of Green lanes will also be a bonanza for Kebab shops and barbers I expect
