But, crucially, it's also very comfortable and well made.
and
They make cycling gear that doesn't make you look like a novelty condom.
...are my reasons. If I had more money, I'd buy more and at RRP.
A bit harsh, but good point.
Marketing guff is marketing guff. Look at Gillette ads. Or more to the point every wanky ad that includes football. Not buying something because it plays off the 'values' of riding a bike, sounds just as nuts to me as buying something because it embodies those 'values'.
I can understand buying stuff to give you status. I can understand not buying something because you think their customers are tossers. But because it's misappropriated a set of values....??????
What cycle clothing brands do you buy instead? http://www.swrve.us/ ? no brand values or 'life style choices' there right. Asoss? Yep, they're all about just displaying the product.

What cycle clothing brands do you buy instead?
This is a very good question.
Perhaps more importantly, why do you buy the brands you do Mr carson?
What is about their marketing that appeals to you? (I'm genuinely interested as you've obviously got clear ideas of who you are, how you like to be marketed to and how you're perceived based on those choices.)

Just popped down about 2 hrs ago to return a top and see what was left - lots of medium black track tops for £30. No XL for fatboys like me. Loads in all sizes in red, which I went for.
If you're a medium, IMO this represents a damn bargain.
Apart from that there's quite a few of the pink, grey and white s/s tops, and also the thicker purple l/s paul smith tops (£30 or 2 for £50) which don't look nearly as bad when you get them home (bought one for £25 in the summer sale at the end of Sunday, and wear it all the time).
Lots of caps (no large though) 3 for £20. No winter or knitteds though.

Yeah, a few. Picked up yet another pair, but they're still £55. I think that's still decent value, but I had sort of hoped they'd have gone down a bit. Possibly will do later today.

I popped in for a 30 quid track top. Nice and not at all pricey!

I'd be embarrassed to wear rapha tbh - it's not just the rapha clad city types grunting up box hill on lurid carbon that puts me off - it's the branding of cycling history and culture - the idea that a product can be somehow associated with the great cols, the great riders, the heroics and tragedy of great races etc... I actually find their brand and marketing crap a bit of an insult to the sport and its heritage tbh.
Of course great races have nothing to do with selling anything... apart from the fact that the Tour de France was started to sell more copies of L'Auto and the Giro was started to sell more copies of La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Professional cycling only exists because of branding.

Hoof you already had enough?
I got some gloves in the last sale. Have to highly reccommend. Whilst they wore through fairly quickly on the thumbs, I sent them back to be repaired and the quality of the repair is amazing. Thumbs up!
